I only saw Sling Blade once. Really liked it, but I don't remember it well at this point. It's probably well worth a rewatch for me.

Slingblade is definitely worth a rewatch. HT, you need to see it ASAP. I haven’t seen it in a long time but I can’t imagine it not holding up really well.

It is also interesting in that it was written and directed by nobody Billy Bob Thornton, who figured this was his only real shot at writing, directing and/or acting. A really great film with a ton of heart, especially considering where it came from.
so much this. it was filmed in less than two weeks with a budget of around $1M.

Its really ****ing nuts that even with inflation, new video games are cheaper than they were 25-30 years ago.

****ing Genesis games would run like $70. I seem to recall, I think it was Virtua Racing, was $99.99!

Re: ***Augustus Caesar Blade LC Thread***

When VCRs were new, you had to buy a $100+ membership just for the right to rent videos from the video store. Each rental still carried its own cost on top of that.

Re: ***Augustus Caesar Blade LC Thread***

i dated a girl in the mid '90s who's dad rented movies by the dozen and recorded them all via vcr to vcr technology. they had a framed-in sun porch that looked like your local blockbuster or hollywood video with racks and racks of tapes. he even typed up the labels and also kept a master list of the movie names and which rack and shelf they were on.
let's just say she was a cheap date.

Re: ***Augustus Caesar Blade LC Thread***

We did a lot of recording ourselves. Buying a new release movie was well over $100 back then.

I remember when my dad bought a new ‘4 head’ VCR. We were all amazed how clear the picture was when you hit pause. Lol. That thing was north of a grand.

It's pretty bananas. Also insane to consider that the games industry is now ten times more profitable than the film industry. I'm guessing that's now slanting even further to do Coronavirus issues.

To the VCR/retro discussion,

I remember helping my dad set up our first DVD player and surround sound system, crawling beneath the floor and running the speaker wires. Pretty sure that whole setup was more than 3 grand. Hilarious to think that "normal DVD" quality is considered subpar today. I get seriously annoyed when the only way to watch a movie is just a DVD.

Just think of the sheer volume of quality DVD's that are now obsolete. Definitely in the billions.

Recently hit this hurdle as well. Gf and I were in the middle of watching BSG and before we hit season 4 the show was suddenly removed from Prime. After digging out my series DVDs from the very back of my closet, we realized we didn't have a DVD player.

Ended up having to temporarily move my desktop PC downstairs just to watch the final season, lol.

PC at least has a connotation of being non-Mac, but Macs and PCs alike have CPUs.

Does this mean you don't have a Blu-Ray or 4K player, either? I have one of each, and I'm pretty sure they will both play my Dirty Harry DVD box set.

Is there any reason to have a DVD or Blu-Ray player?

I can understand record players because records sound different (better?) than digital. I can't imagine a world where someone would prefer a lower quality picture.

Fortunately there are enough people out there who will drop 10K+ on microtransactions that they can keep the base price down for the rest of us

Good point. You could download it beforehand but your point stands. I guess people could collect them for the artwork also.
