Might be worth asking the cashier.

All of the stores around here will scan the store card for a "member" price (if you don't have a card), but won't apply it by default. So if you go through the self checkout and don't ask the attendant about a store card, then you will pay full price.

That is situational. Most younger cashiers have no clue, but the phone number almost always works.

Some of the older cashiers will get it once you say the numbers, some will even laugh and start singing it themselves.

The more experienced cashiers (I'm looking at you CVS) allow multiple people to register the same phone number so you have to pick one.

There's like 30+ registered with the XXX-867-53XX number.

Oddly enough, the last time I checked, Jenny wasn't a registered number in that specific area code.

I actually heard that as a "hack," years ago: try to link 867-5309 as your rewards number, so you hoover up all the rewards of people that just give that number to get the discounted price.

867-5309 looks weird when typed. It should be 8675-309.

I used to use that number at the gas station which is linked up for rewards. Max was a dollar a gallon. Worked for almost 5 years. Seems someone at Safeway caught on as it no longer works. A shame as it was a few thousand dollars I saved

My internet fake phone number, also used at the grocery stores, is the first 6 of my real number followed by 1111. I check it every year or so to make sure some poor sap hasn't gotten that number for real.
