That is correct. It's a party to shower the expecting couple with gifts for the baby. I don't know why men should be excluded. Traditionally it's usually women, I guess. Every baby shower I have been to (2 outside work, 2 at work) has been coed.

it's polite to not invite men because men don't want to go to **** like that

it's not a "party" it's a bunch of women sitting around going "awwwww" over baby gifts

Simplifying a baby shower down to "party" is like referring to a child's first birthday party as a "party." It's technically true, but these are functions that are usually singularly devoted to really lame activities.

(Admittedly I'm going off of second-hand accounts since I haven't actually been to a baby shower.)
08-06-2017 , 05:55 PM
Doesn't mean they have to be devoted to lame activities though. My friends child's first birthday party was strictly food and booze - no specific activities: kids colored and played and ate cake. Most of the baby showers have been similar: food and booze and cake and gifts presented. Perhaps the key is to have cool friends.

I have been to a ****ty Bachelorette party. It immediately got better once we escaped having it be all female and joined the guys and went to the dive bar. Activities are dumb and overcomplicate things and are generally unlikeable.

The gifts part took about 5 minutes.
08-06-2017 , 06:01 PM
alright if you have a "baby shower" in name only that isn't what people think of as a baby shower then sure it could be fine

When young dudes cry here or also in RL something about how difficult it is to find a woman, I always think "Guys..... make an effort. Move out of your mom's basement. Shower. Learn and actually go dancing. Make compliments...." Now I have one more on this list: " Go to as many as possible baby showers"
08-06-2017 , 06:18 PM
Just out of curiosity, which young guys on here cry about how difficult it is to find a woman while also living with their parents?

ETA: Just remembered N1, never mind. Though I'd say he's a special case.

also you are only invited to baby showers if you are already in a relationship so the advice doesn't really work anyway
08-06-2017 , 06:30 PM
I can get on board with going to a "baby shower" if it is really just a regular party where you bring gifts for the expected baby (gifts that are opened next week after I'm gone). But that's not really a baby shower, is it.
08-06-2017 , 06:35 PM
I'm all for this coed baby shower party situation. If I have to suffer through them so should my partner.

Lol at thinking that men are being "excluded" from baby showers.
No self respecting man wants to go to one.

So you're the second guy that's said that that's not really a baby shower. What IS really a baby shower then?

Has anybody been to a gender-reveal party? I've only just learned of these, and **** that.
08-06-2017 , 07:42 PM
Technically the baby shower yesterday was also sex reveal party (tap if u woke). I thought that was silly and I assume she was ducking me for the past month cuz she can't keep a secret and clearly leaked to family judging by all the blue wrapped gifts.

I guess the usual reveals the couple doesn't know either - in this case they knew and surprised us.

My wife has been to a couple. Most gruesome thing imaginable.

I've been to two. Both were regular parties where the only difference was they took about three minutes to do the "reveal". Then we went back to drinking beer.
08-06-2017 , 07:56 PM
Did people bring gifts?

Most gruesome? A few weeks ago there was one here in Cincy where someone did a drive-by shooting and the expectant mother was shot and lost the baby.

She was faking the pregnancy.

If you think a group of men daydrinking and grilling is dumb, then sure.

I've been to parties where people brought gifts for the expectant couple and it was a big potluck and might as well have been just another family BBQ.

I've been to "parties" where you're supposed to cut off a hank of yarn when you show up and the closest to the circumference of the expectant mother wins a prize. This party also featured an activity where folks passed around diapers that had some mystery substance smeared on them and you had a form to fill out to identify "what #5 was", etc. Plus a couple of other dubiously fun activities.

The latter really IS a baby shower, and not only should a guy not want to attend that, IMO nobody should.

I occasionally lolchinese at my wife, but in this case, they get it right. Have a party, give them money, none of that other foolishness.

You still didn't explain the diaper part.
What you just described is commonly referred to as a "BBQ" and is obviously fun.
