Said video reminded me that the scene in Donnie Brasco where Depp and Pacino are talking in the car with leather seats, and leather jackets, also elicited a sensation.
I don't believe people are watching asmr to watch cute girls. I love cute girls more than anybody and I don't watch asmr because I don't get the asmr response, but if I did I'd definitely watch ones with cute girls in them because I have the option.
Like I don't enjoy kpop, but when I do watch a kpop music video it'll only be one with cute girls dancing in skimpy outfits
Anything with cute girls is going to be more popular

I do get it. But you were presenting ASMR as if it's a sound thing about the "feels." And it's really not. But no need to get bent out of shape, I just think a true ASMR would mostly about the sound and not the picture. If you like what you posted, no skin off my nose. But my posts with the mouse cat are better.
Yeah if you guys aren't watching ASMR videos in dark room while listening through noise-cancelling headphones then of course it won't work.
It has less chance of working if there is interference but some people can get the ASMR response under other conditions too.

The point is to get the ASMR response. I usually have it on while I play online poker. It is true I have to turn the table sounds off though.

Ok, but if it's defined that way then surely it's better to be weird than generic.
Also, the kind of people who use the term "weird" don't mean it like that. For example I make my own cider in my kitchen. Would they consider that weird too? - because hardly anyone else does it.

I tend to agree with this. Generally IMHO people shouldn't be putting their kids up on youtube at all, and yes it's worse in this kind of video that is open to misinterpretation or different interpretations.

I have taken the audio off some of them and listen to them on earbuds as I go around town. I also generally have youtube on behind my poker game.
I suspect that will be the way a lot of it goes, but at the moment video seems to be the way content is served. If I have youtube music on while I'm cooking in the kitchen (yes computer in the kitchen - hashtag EasternEuropeanlife) I sometimes find my kids watching the screen even if it's something that doesn't have a video with it. I'm like "music is something you listen to, not watch".
After more investigation it seems to me there is a lot of stuff which is mislabelled as ASMR - basically any stuff which is not music but pleasant to listen to. For example the following:
doesn't do anything (for me at least) ASMR wise but is pleasant none the less. For that particular type of thing yes, it's nice to decorate it with a pretty girl.

No. It's just the sound range you respond to. For me it needs to be at a higher pitch. Everyone has different triggers. It doesn't mean gobbo has a soap fetish or Dominic has a hamster fetish.
You’re right, in that there must be some other component to weirdness in my definition. I suppose I would find someone who routinely experiences synesthesia while listening to music to be weird, but not in a normatively negative sense. Or someone who is able to lucid dream. But not someone who makes cider at home. I’m not quite sure I have a handle on the exact distinction between the two.
Listening to people whisper and eat is pretty annoying tbh. I thought I may like it as I'm pretty attracted/get tingly with some male voices but the videos posted are just annoying imo. I do like rain or ocean sounds and no cute men are necessary to enjoy this. That YT kid asmr was creepy as fk though.

when i watch asmr i 90% have my eyes closed and im trying to get ready to sleep.
so most of the time, visually for me, its just black with audio.
the video usually means nothing to me. the volume, the intensity of the sound, and if i like that particular sound or not determines if i watch it. thats why i have such a huge range when it comes to asmr.
unrelated to my quote above,
The "protect the children on teh internet" is bull****. imo kids shouldnt be allowed on the ****ing internet as it is.
the logical fallacy by people, governments, whatever idiots run the show, is truly remarkable. if a 3 year old holding a ****ing ipad is allowed to access the internet with 100% of the same features as a 30 year old then either make their loser ass parents restrict their ****wit kids access to MOST things online or remove children from the internet entirely until 14+.
so much ****ery lately in terms of censorship online, its like going to a R rated movie to find that its been dumbed down to a PG pixar movie. its disgusting that the world has to cater to children.

first time checking any of this out. I haven't experienced any tingling but I am noticing a nice level of relaxation, almost right away, when I close my eyes and listen. preferring videos with little or no talking.
fortunately I don't have sleep issues, but if I did this would be a great tool.
ASMR kind of works for me. I don't get "tingly" feelings like they all talk about bu it's really relaxing. I mainly like whispering and quieter sounds.
I'm really not a fan of the eating and other weird stuff.I saw one where the girl was calling you "master" and acting really submissive. It was very strange lol
binaural sounds are puzzling. seems it should be a facade, and the music is unquestionably bad, but it is not terrible on my anxiety like beethoven is.
AFAIK Binaural just means that the sound comes out of the left or right channels in a way that is optimised for someone listening with headphones or ear buds rather than someone listening on a HiFi system with loudspeakers.
If you listen to a normal stereo recording with headphones then sometimes weird unnatural stuff happens like you can only hear certain instruments with your left or right ear - which doesn't match how it would be to hear the band in the room with you but would be fine with a pair of loudspeakers (as you can hear both speakers with both ears).
