To the very introverted, those with social anxiety, and loners that have never had contact with a woman, this is probably breakthrough technology.

I refuse to even grunch this thread but I've been grossed out by ASMR for like... 4 years now? I saw the very first ones on youtube and immediately got the vibe that they were just trying to make PG rated porn for weirdos. I still feel this way. Its prevalence on kid-dominated platforms like youtube grosses me the **** out. I am highly susceptible to frisson meaning I would probably be the target demo but the entire genre makes me sick to my stomach.

Hmm this is interesting. The linked videos are creepy as hell, but from some quick reading online it seems like there is some sort of hypnotic type phenomena that some people experience.

I think I may be one of those people, for my entire life I’ve always noticed hearing certain people talk would make me sort of relax/zone out w/ tingling on back of head. Could be male or female, in person or on TV and had nothing to do with who the person was, but more some aspect of their voice. Never really thought much of it. From looking at linked vids in here seems maybe this has been a real hypnotic phenomena of some sort but as soon as a market was discovered got highly sexualized for improved profit or wider appeal.

Whatever happened to just smoking a joint and listening to some Pink Floyd?

I guess I can confirm all thoughts in this thread by saying that I've fallen asleep to ASMR stuff for like 3 years now. I've always needed white noise/fans to sleep but I definitely get the asmr "sensation" that people talk about. Basically just an intense relaxation, like white noise but much deeper. I imagine it's sexual for some people but it's not for me.

I think you guys went out of your way to find the weirdest videos. Some of them are very benign. Here are some of my "favorites." I say that with quotes because I'm asleep for 90% of them.

I agree most of the videos are weird as hell but I'm just interested in the white noise aspect so I don't think about it or actually watch the videos, just have the sound going in the background while I'm relaxing.

Some of these phil laak cooking video's are great, but must look away at the end. To say the least, food porn moneyshots are best left to carls jr models.

Like, 90% of these videos are popular because they have hot chicks doing it. So it ain’t the sound that’s bringing people in.

most ASMR is not weird and 100% I only use it for sleep, mostly watching them super late before bed. stuff like whispering or tapping on things or even rain hitting a roof are my top choices. id say the ones i watch are 80% girls 20% guys. i have zero interest in the other weird ASMR stuff and im very aware it exists.

I get using videos and stuff like that to fall asleep. I honestly can't imagine falling asleep without some kind of background noise these days. Normally, the news or a podcast such as Sleep With Me Podcast where some guy just drones on about incoherent stories that are so boring they put you to sleep are effective for me.

I don't see how ASMR is arousing. None of those noises or voices get me hard. Maybe it's an online alternate for people who got off on phone sex.

Oh, and this is ****ing nuts.
Same here. The wisperring is annoying and any kind of ear licking sound makes me cringe.....and rubber gloves just erk me....eeeeeh.

There is a documentary on ASMR on Netflix that was interesting. A girl went to some sensory type depravation house with various types of ASMR. I think I would enjoy Hearing+Sight depravation with touching.

Anything intentionally ASMR that I've been exposed to hasn't worked. I haven't sought vids out though, so my exposure is relatively minimal.

There has been two scenes in movies that have caused the sensation for me, I watched them repeatedly when it occurred. I also used to have a friend who would chew on his fingertips while we played role playing games and that would do it, as well as a different friend who I would have read NES Game Genie codes to me in elementary school.

I never knew what it was or that other people had experienced it until yeota mentioned ASMR in SE a few years ago. Most everyone had no idea wtf he was referencing.

What were the movie scenes?

Early scene where Clint Eastwood is being admitted to prison and he's being patted down (specifically when they're checking his hair) in Escape from Alcatraz.

Other one was a scene where a chicken is sacrificed to read it's innards for soothsaying in the Robin Williams movie Being Human. The sounds of the knife being used against the flesh and the continual soft splashing of water did it for me.

Why can't it be both? ASMR does nothing for me, so when I want to watch videos of hot chicks there are about a billion other ones on the Internet where they are doing things I actually find arousing.

I don't think millions of people are watching ASMR videos only because of the hot chicks. They must be getting some kind of ASMR response.
