People with Borderline Personality Disorder are like the definition of crazy.

writing about a multiple personality individual has been done, also in the movies and on TV.

If you really want to have an adventure, find someone with Borderline Personality Disorder and befriend them. You will never understand it until you experience it, so read up about it sure (Stop Walking on Eggshells is the book to start with), and go to the internet support groups and read the stories of partners and loved ones. But you will never 'get' what it really is until you meet and get to know one. If you can put that experience into an article so that others can understand it, you are a good journalist.

I read this whole thing on a train ride today. Wow what an story. I thought I had two real nutcases in my past but this on takes the cake. There's some buried pedo kink there but good on OP for moving on. I thought I had a high tolerance for BS but I would definitely need therapy after that situation. What a brave souls for sharing that.

That was disturbing to read. I dated a girl almost exactly like that in HS. I broke up with her when she refused to get therapy.

This was when OOT was good.

I guess as the member base ages, stories like these became less frequent.

I noticed this thread when I was checking voter eligibility for Ms. OOT and also wanted to bump it.

While I understand why the mods of the time didn't want to allow discussion on whether it was therapist induced while OP was still around, I think it's pretty interesting to compare with other countries and ask why this is more or less unknown outside North America.

My take:
Obviously people get messed up in other countries too and if (some) therapists in one country are attempting to coax these multiple personalities out into the open and in other countries the craziness is coming out in a different way it'd be interesting to know more about what kinds of ways this is, how it's better/worse in the short/long term etc. What we need is an "AMA about being a euro who would've had multiple personalities if I'd been to an American therapist".

The multiple personalities girl I dated was not in therapy. Not saying therapy has no effect on the issue, but it is definitely not the only causative factor.

After reading the first 10 pages from 8+ years back, I was anticipating marriage, births, and deaths .... glad I was wrong.

IDK why people stick in these types of relationships that have so much drama and carry such a burden. Life is too short to be carrying other peoples loads. Maybe if you have been with someone for 10 years and something triggers this all new issue, but some seem like fairly new relationships and mid 20 year olds. Is it a need to take care of someone or some other fear or need?

In a way it's like people that get rescue animals and then can't leave them alone because the animals go crazy till they get back, now you just confined yourself to home.
