It's something that's crossed my mind but I don't see it as being a huge deal. Any other random stuff could happen to her (or me) while driving at any time.

My poker game got all screwed up, and it's really only been in the past few months that I've really started trying to deal with that. I quit poker for a while and realized how ridiculous that was so I'm currently rebuilding from a small deposit after a week or two or three.

None of "them" have let me know that they don't approve of this thread being done. It's possible one or more of "them" don't like it, but "they" haven't let me know, so at this point I'm assuming that in either case it's not really an issue.

Matilda is rarely in the forefront for more than say 20-30 seconds lately (past couple of months) but it's hard to say what the difference in reaction would be, if any. I feel like the main difference with Rebecca at this point would be a lot more adjectives used about certain replies/questions this thread has gotten.

As far as the uncle confessing or whatever, I really have no idea. I can see it causing anything from having a really good effect to having a really bad effect. I don't know if him dying will cause much change, if any. I would guess the change would be minimal.

I have no idea, and it doesn't really matter to me. I wouldn't want her to. I've wondered the same (briefly) before, but I've never brought it up because it's not important. If everything happened on the same time frame and she stayed like she was before all of that happened, objectively I think that she would, but I can't say I wouldn't try to do something to push her away so she wouldn't have to deal with it.

I'm not sure if it's possible for anyone to be completely objective if you ask them about how ****ed up they are, but I'll try anyway.

...so I've been thinking about this one for a few minutes, and it's a really hard question to answer. I guess I put my balls on someone's forehead who arguably tried to kill me, recorded it on a camera, and then showed her on camera after the fact, so that sort of answers that question.

Fifteen years in an Abnormal Psychology class at UF, we watched a documentary about a lady who claimed to have over 100 personalities (one of them was a dragon IIRC). At the end of the viewing, the professor asked the class of 300 to raise their hands if they thought that Multiple Personality Disorder / DID was fake.

I was the only one that raised my hand. I changed away from psych as a major the following year. While I do not question the legitimacy of the abuse/trauma of DID claimants, I do question the legitimacy of DID itself. That is all.

This was posted on reddit a little bit ago. I'm so glad that I found it. I too am in a serious relationship with a girl who has DID. It's so rare to find any resources dealing with DID from a spousal/partner point of view, and even rarer to find a current one.

It's really interesting how similar some of Michelle's personalities are to my girlfriend's. One big difference is that instead of a bunch of adult personalities and one little one; my girlfriend has several young personalities. She has several personalities that are age 2 - 5, when she was involved in a child prostitution ring. One that is 17, when she was raped by her high school boyfriend, and her "normal" self, 23. The appearance of DID slowly developed a few months after dating her. I think it was a combination of "woah, this guy actually cares and I'm comfortable showing him the real me" and the fact that her high school boyfriend had committed suicide around that time. It first manifested itself as sleep-talking that became more and more involved, eventually to the point that I could not wake her up.

I don't want to hi-jack your thread, but it really has been great reading it. I wish more of us could be as open about it as you guys are. Nobody besides me actually knows about the situation in any detail.

Also one other tidbit. While we live in North America now, the childhood abuse happened in the Philippines, which is where her mind first learned to use dissociation as a coping mechanism.

OP, if you get a chance, many of us would still be interested in the story about how you discussed all this with her parents. I can sort of imagine it since I have an evangelical Christian uncle and trying to have any sort of discussion with him is like talking to a brick wall.

On that note, I'd be curious how you have told anybody. How much did you tell them? How did you tell them?

I've just got a minute or two right now but I'll come back to this later.

Most of our friends know. Not necessarily the super detailed stuff, but that she passes out randomly and that she has multiple personalities. When she goes into her little kid mode or w/e around them it doesn't freak them out that bad since they know ahead of time and everything just proceeds along as usual. I don't go into a bunch of detail about it, but like when I told one of my friends it went something like "yeah man one's like a little kid, one is pissed off all the time and tries to kick my ass sometimes, stuff like that." And the guy was just like lol wow and had a couple questions but that's about it.

I don't really tell people unless they might need to know at some point.

Pretty fascinating thread. I think you're crazy personally, don't take it as an insult, its just your level of tolerance for traumatic events is much higher than mine. I think little michelle coming out might have forced me into therapy my self. I got goosebumps while reading every word you typed in this thread.

Just want to say ty for sharing cause it was a very good read. I strongly suggest reconsidering your future with this girl. Her being awesome isn't a good enough reason to potentially be murdered in your sleep and or have that same fate happen to your future kids.
