Re: Ask me about what it is like living with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

This seems like very mild OCD, and if you're not prepared to answer a question along the lines of "what do you eat for breakfast" then for the love of god, don't start a ****ing ask me thread.

I think masturbation and OCD would be an awesome combination. Do you masturbate? There are times that I cannot leave the house without masturbating several times. Do I have OCD?

You are correct, and I am equally irrational in my hoarding.

When I buy collectibles, I tend to turn to EBay, and in my mind, I need to win every single auction that falls below a certain price that I set in my mind in order to validate that I am indeed the best at what I do. If I happen to miss an auction, it literally kills me inside for weeks, to the extent of finding the seller and begging him to sell it to me outside of EBay, instead.

Very irrational, and equally-binding as the hand washing scenario.

do you have any problems/"rituals" with buying clothes or similar?
Truthfully, this is the first thing I did when I woke up today, both in the middle of the night and "for good" at 9:30 AM. I feel an obligation to answer all questions.

On a tiled floor, I do my best to avoid cracks, so the answer is "yes".

I hate eating in public, and when I do, I always request the seat with the least visibility.

I do not think about clothes a lot, but I will only wear certain things to poker tournies/ring games out of superstition.

You are entitled to your opinion, but please, be respectful. Although I do not fit the cookie-cutter germophobe, it still consumes a great portion of my life.

What are you like when you're drunk?

I do, but there are certain days when I refuse to do so.

Although the chances of you having OCD are very slim based upon that alone, it does sometimes manifest itself with constant occupation with sex.

I am a total jerk when I drink, but I say this from experiences years ago.

When one is on SSRIs, alcohol is prohibited because it causes severe depression due to the interaction. Thus, you would be correct by speculating that I do not drink.

Play online and live. Online, 200NL 6-max. Live, 2/5NL. I play for 6-10 hours at a time, typically a both venues.

I rarely get stressed while playing unless someone focuses personal attention on me live. Therefore, the game is not a stressor, but the potential interaction with the competition is.

This topic is interesting.

You say you take these "SSRIs" that help you to manage tilt and was wondering if you would recommend them to people without your condition.

No, no, and NO.

Side effects of SSRIs include:

* Nausea
* Sexual dysfunction, including reduced desire or orgasm difficulties
* Dry mouth
* Headache
* Diarrhea
* Nervousness
* Rash
* Agitation
* Restlessness
* Increased sweating
* Weight gain
* Drowsiness
* Insomnia

I have experienced all of these with the exception of weight gain, and allow me to say this, once you get on them, you will be bound to them, lest you be hit with very painful withdrawal.

And if you take them irregularity, suicidal thoughts have been reported.

One of the most difficult things I have done in the past two years was inquire about a home game in the area, and they allowed me in initially because they thought I would be an easy mark. Now, I am crushing them and they cannot get rid of me, and although I still play there, I do not feel welcome.

read through most of the thread - it seems like you are mostly hindered by your assburgers, not the OCD itself. is this accurate?

Asperger's mainly manifests itself as a mindset of being unable to exhibit social cues, which I took classes to learn. In a vacuum, the syndrome does not result in avoidant behavior.

The OCD has caused me to miss many social events, appear eccentric and obsessive in conversations with my peers, and to do things that frankly distance myself from those who try to get close to me.

So, overall, I would say that your statement is inaccurate.

That's fair. So why don't you consider getting treatment for the OCD again? But another form of treatment with a different focus?

Oh and by the way - I know how to spell Asperger's, I just tend to "call" it that when I say the word IRL and I also have a couple of acquaintances who have it and actually call it that as well (sort of a joke).

I have a very very mild case of OCD and just started medication, but I do this and it drives me crazy.

That is exactly why I didn't over-react to your "assburgers" joke about it .

I am getting treatment for the OCD, but there is only so much you can do. My meds only lessen the symptoms, but I have occasional flare-ups from time to time.

Care to describe your symptoms?

And the adjustment period to medication is difficult, I remember feeling very depressed when I began, to the point of thinking about suicide at times...but I was told that this was to be expected, so I stayed the course and was able to adjust.

Re: Ask me about what it is like living with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

My symptoms are very mild and mostly involve obsessive thoughts that stick in my head which I relieve with compulsions. Things like counting, constantly checking e-mail, or my phone as a way to distract myself from the thoughts (reliving embarrassing moments, thinking about some upcoming thing I have to do but am dreading, stuff like that).

The more basic OCD symptoms that most people would recognize involve routine and time being very important. I shower/get ready for the day in the same order everyday and it makes me feel off and anxious if that routine is disturbed. For example, shower is always body wash (washing body parts in the same order) face wash, shampoo. About to go to lunch, will post more if you're interested.
