Are you affected at all when you see people get shot on the tv ? Ever get nightmares about it?

I was way out of my parents' house when I got shot. I had to move back in with them for a month, but I moved out as quick as feasible, when my wound closed. I lived for a couple more months in SW MO while I pondered my future, but I went back to selling cleaner in the summer.

I wasn't more reflective, but I always heard college calling, and it was tempting, but it waited for about a year.

Reflective, not even close. It didn't come close to affecting my world view.

I've dreamt about it, but not recently, and never nightmares. It all happened so fast it was like a fantasy.

Is "cleaner" a euphemism?

No, it was a pink-colored paste, an all purpose cleaner that was very easy to sell. Good because, when I started selling, I was a neurotic introvert who could barely look strangers in the eye, much less talk to them.

What I wanna know is, how do you marry for 20 years then divorce?

well i just thought about it and realized you have selfish tendencies(saving urself instead of others) so that could explain it.

anyways cool story hope your ok

Grunch: What was worse, taking the bullet or the end of your marriage? Serious question; if it's too personal, that's cool.

That's interesting. Getting divorced caused me more "pain", but I'm now glad I'm divorced. So it was a purposeful pain, unlike getting shot.

And I got divorced way later in life when these little bumps seem to hit you not so hard.

Yeah, I'm doing very well. How did I get divorced after 20 years? My wife caught a bad case of Catholic, and that didn't help because I'm not religious.

Yes, I am quite selfish, and that probably didn't help my marriage in the long run.

Can you recreate the convenience store with MSpaint so I have an idea of how far you had to run, which direction, etc.

Be sure to post where the shooter was and where the Asians were.

I haven't read most of the thread, but I swear I read once where they say you should just simply run away as most people can't shoot straight and usually miss, even from fairly close range...
they obviously hit you but perhaps they just got lucky.

Haha, I don't know from MSpaint and stuff. I was standing in the relative middle of the store facing the counter, talking to the Asian owner guy I'd just sold, and Mr. Robberman came up on my right (far side, away from door) and caused trouble. I still remember there was a freezer case angled off behind him to his right.

It couldn't have been more than 20 or 25 feet to the door; it was a pretty small store. It may still be there for all I know. I hope it is.

Do you still live near there? You should definitely go back and check it out. Also, do you still sell 'cleaner' ?

No, that was San Francisco, and I now live in Texas. I haven't sold cleaner since 1982, when I left the traveling salesgroup with my then girlfriend and moved back to Missouri to attend college and get all smart and ****.

The circumstances of the sales job were changing, and I knew I wanted to go back to college.

The travel and adventure I always loved and always will love.

In most cases $90 is plenty..

Do you remember if it hurt or were you too pumped at that point?

Immediately after I got shot it was all too crazy to think about the pain. Recuperated hurt more in the traditional sense of "wow this doesn't feel good".

This is an interesting description, really. I think this is what I was looking for when I opened this thread.

Well, you got shot up in San Francisco way back when, and I shot up a lot in San Francisco way back when, so we have a lot in common.

Anyway, it's a much tougher, urban city than most people think.

I would bet anything the guy was strung out on dope or a heavy crystal meth user. Each of these drugs is unbelievably prevalent throughout SF, and has been for decades.

I sure don't miss it.

So of course, now I live in Bodymore, Murderland, heroin capital of the universe.

Sorry you got shot.

Media depictions of violence don't bother me at all. I am apt to get a little paranoid late night in a convenience store, but just a little and it passes quickly.

It seems like you don't carry much residual baggage over the experience and I give you credit for that.

I made the opposite choice...turned over my wallet and cash and did not get hurt. I have different feelings about it though. Anytime I think about it, it comes with some anger and regret. I can't say for sure but I think if I wound up in a similar situation I might make a different choice.
