I got shot through the back in 1981 while I was working in San Francisco. Some guy held up a little Asian grocery store I was selling cleaner to. I had about 90 in my pocket I wanted to keep, and the guy was telling us to empty our pockets, so I took off out the door to keep my hard-earned money, thinking that this guy wasn't really going to shoot me. He shot me through the back, but I keep going, spouting blood like a fountain, and ran around the corner to Powell Street and asked a lady to call an ambulance, and then I fell down. That's all I remember until the emergency room at San Francisco General. This was Tuesday, and the next thing I knew it was Friday and my parents had flown in from Missouri and were standing by my bed looking worried cause I had almost died.
Do you still have pain or problems stemming from the shooting?
How many times do you think someone will make a comment about you getting shot over $90?
My lung collapsed, and they had to give me like 13 units of blood in the operation. SF General supposedly had a world-class trauma center that was ready for cases like this. My cousin Colleen's an RN and she says I was lucky being shot relatively close by SF General.
I'm missing some lung tissue, but no long term health issues from the shooting.
The bullet went clean through me, entered my back right by my spine and exited my chest right by my nipple, so it flew out on the street somewhere and I haven't seen it since.
How often do you brag and show off your wound? Has it helped you get laid?
I've shown women my scars. My wife (now ex) liked the long scar down the middle of my chest from the operation. The exit scar is kind of ugly though, like a third nipple. I know I really mean areole, but I don't know how to spell it.
