I had not checked this thread in quite a whille and kind of missed out on all the "flat earth" posts above. Amusing and entertaining...I don't mind the hijack at all.

And I like "walksoff"...perfect phonetic spelling for the way to say WOXOF.

I'd just go to the airport, hop the next flight to the west coast (LAX, SFO or SEA) on any airline and once there, just hop the next flight to HNL. Over the years, I used American, United, Continental and Hawaiian for those flights.

This incident could have a chilling effect on that perk. I imagine, at the very least, that the cockpit introductions will be a little more involved.

Do you still have flying privileges in retirement?

The news just reported that he took the shrooms 48 hours earlier, so hard to imagine that was a major factor.

now i'm convinced 'perfect phonetic spelling' is a twisted lingual exercise professional pilots flex before making long-haul flight announcements

I'd be interested in hearing about the procedure for the Alaska Airlines situation. I imagine it goes something like this:
  • Subdue the person
  • Declare a mayday
  • Radio the closest airport to get an emergency landing
  • Got down and let law enforcement take over

Also, what do you tell the passengers? It's not as if you can say, "we're having a mechanical issue," when there's police cars surrounding the plane after landing.

Flight privileges yes. Cockpit jumpseat no.

Police cars surrounding an airplane only happens in the movies. Law enforcement would be in the jetway when the cabin door opens.

How would I go about finding a flight that had to make an emergency landing in 2000? When my wife's entire family was flying to Vegas for my wedding the flight had to make an emergency landing in Wichita(?) and the story goes they had to assume crash positions and there were lots of emergency vehicles on the runway to meet them.

Fortunately, no one was hurt but it would have sucked to have lost my wife's entire family coming to our wedding. As far as in-laws go they're good people.

Provide the details here and let the power of the hive mind find it. Where were they flying from? What was the date?

Let's see.. Would have been October 4th, 5th or 6th 2000 from Detroit to Las Vegas. My wife is asking her mom for more specifics. Go hive mind!

I would think a diversion of a commercial would result in some kind of incident report or at least a self-report, but given those few details, I didn't see anything in either searchable database (Accident and Incident Data System, Aviation Safety Reporting System)

https://www.asias.faa.gov/apex/f?p=100:2:::NO:::

I did find an interesting story of a prisoner brought onto an aircraft then released from handcuffs for some reason.

I found nothing on Google from that time:

Thanks for looking, I couldn't find anything either but the FAA site is pretty cool.

I'll get more details and search. If I find anything I'll report back.

They might not of had 3 in the green or were showing some other kind of issue that turned out to be nothing. The equipment and fire command responding is usually standard for emergency aircraft, they also have heat sensors to check the breaks for over heating if they landed over weight.

Only thing I could come up with is an emergency landing in Omaha on a flight from Milwaukee to Denver because of an engine vibration.

Waiting for more details from the in-laws.

Can't remember if this was discussed ITT.

A former Delta pilot was indicted for interfering with the flight crew. Allegedly threated to shoot the captain if he made a diversion for a passenger's medical emergency on a 2022 flight. Unclear to me why he was so bothered by a potential diversion.

I read that today. Probably had a hot date or something else stupid.

Is there even a single instance of a firearm in the cockpit of a commercial airliner having been used to thwart the takeover of the aircraft since 9/11?

Guns have their place, but I'm not convinced that is one of them.

flying through europe:
shoes on
metal off
probably means belt and pocket contents in a tray
perhaps a hat
don't get tense, your experience may vary
electronics and liquid can stay in a carry-on bag through the x-ray

Same as Missoula, Mt USA. They got that next gen 3d imaging **** there. Brand new terminal, etc. Pretty swank.

Not the same in Phoenix Az. Shoes off, electronics bigger than phone out. No metal, no belt. Dogs. Didn't hit on my vape, at least.

TSA has got to be a top 5 Federal employer, right?

I always forget that not everyone has Pre Check.

just haven't been flying enough to warrant the cost, and most of the places i go through don't take long anyway.

Not having to take off shoes and belt one time is worth the cost.

Yeah, pre check is well worth it. Not sure about Clear, though when they're waltzing them to the front of the line it sure seems like it might be worth it.

I had Clear for a year and dropped it. If you fly at least a couple round trips a month it may be worth it, otherwise Pre-Check is all you need.
