Lol, wasn't Houston that had me down. I moved there after effectively divorcing (wasn't married so saved a lot of headache there) and was in a really shitty mental place for awhile.

As far as Houston goes, it's not so bad. I'm 20-25 miles North of the city. All the food a fellow could dream about, and the poker is great.

Outside of paying bills, I have zero responsibility in life. I wake up whenever the **** I want, go play poker until I'm tired of it for the day, then go **** off until I do it again the next day.

Definitely not where I intend to settle down, but as long as the poker situation remains as it is, it's the place for me.

Reason I'm on here, is yesterday I was sitting at a bar pregaming for a Primus/A Perfect Circle concert, fellow next to me noticed the Perfect Circle logo on my screen as I was listening to them and struck up a conversation. Yada yada yada, eventually HE brings up 2p2! And I thought well I oughta check in and see what's good.

I missed you in the fastfood thread!

I'm glad things are looking up.

As much as Houston sprawls, it's hard to even guess where that is, but if it's where I used to live, be careful. That place tends to flood. A lot!

It sounds like you're doing well. Don't forget to shout at us peons every once in a while!

I honestly thought you became a puritan, BH. Figured your cool ass brother straightened you out.

Glad to hear you’re still wilding. Dmatz stepped up in this time of great need and usurped your FF throne by right of conquest.

Took a tumble down down a trail yesterday. A bummer because it hurt. Just being careless. On the bright side - I now know how fast I roll down a hill

You thought they were all kidding you

Get on the elevator on the bottom floor of the building at work. As I'm inside it, a random woman comes up and says, "Going up?" I reflexively say, "Yup," before thinking, "What kind of a question is that?" She laughs and says, "I was just kidding! Because we're on the bottom floor." And yes, based on the timing and elivery I'm relatively sure that this was a premeditated joke rather than a face-saving.

I hope that's as close as I ever come to someone asking me if I've got a case of the Mondays.

Always take the stairs, LDO.

Was she an intern at your firm?

Pretty sure not, she got off at a different floor. I don't think I'll have the opportunity to wordlessly close any doors on her.

pretty sure not, in turn she firmly got off at a different floor
wordlessly closed any doors on her at never the opportunity

LKJ,

I think she was trying to pick you up.

Dropped my truck off at the mechanic's for some work. Walking back, thinking about my car history.

In 37 years of having cars, I've owned five. Since about 1998 I also have had a pickup, of which there have been two.

I guess I tend to keep them til they die. Maybe even beyond, and just don't recognize it.

41 years, I'm on my 5th vehicle. I've also co-owned 3 pickups with my wife for the last 26 years. Car works, no reason to get a new one.

Agree. Two of the cars met with early deaths due to crashes (one my fault, one not). I'd probably be even more in that range if it weren't for those.

Plus, I hardly drive (except for the occasional road trip adventure), so I don't need new, just functional.

Impressive!

I thought I drove my cars to the ground, but counting my one truck and your trucks, I've had slightly more vehicles than you two combined. That does include what my parents bought for me to keep me from driving their cars--so technically that was still theirs and not mine. I never lost one because of a crash. (I did finish off one of my parents', and years later I had two wrecks within a week while driving cars I didn't own.) Mechanical damage on the other hand ... My personal best for mileage was comfortably over 250,000.

As mentioned, a lot of the reason I've been able to keep them so long is low mileage. Mostly was able to use public transport for commuting during my career, and my neighborhood is very walkable. I'll bike in the nice weather.

For example, the truck is a 2002 Ford Ranger which I got that fall. Just coming up on 100K.

When I traded for the Subie, the 20-year-old Camaro (also 2002, acquired 2001) had 65K, IIRC.

Then, I'll do something like drive to New England and put 7000 miles on in three weeks. So who knows?

Got rid of my car a year ago and haven’t missed it one bit.

Sucks that USA#1 has so few areas with decent public transportation, as my choice isn’t possible for a lot of people.

i've owned 2 cars in my lifetime

both are used silver volvos with black leather seats

love those cars
