AquaSwing's post reminded me of a surprise I had during the NCAA tournament. Went to the first round in Omaha, in which BYU was playing.

Coming out of one timeout, the BYU bassist and drummer played the opening of Tom Sawyer. Another timeout, the band played YMCA.

Did not see either of those coming from BYU.

High winds expected where I live - 40-60 mph with gusts to 100. Xcel is turning off our power at 3 pm until at least noon tomorrow to avoid one of their power lines burning half of Colorado down.

Wow, never heard of a utility turning off power. After the Marshall fire, I imagine they're being ultra cautious.

Several smaller pieces of trees blown down, and a couple broken fenceposts down here in suburbia. Give me something to do when it gets nice again. Fence probably almost 30 years old, time to replace anyway.

Winds were really wild overnight. I have a blue recycle bin that's about 4' tall and 1.5' square and thought I had it secured but it's gone. We looked 1/4 mile in each direction and it's nowhere to be seen. Maybe it will show up on Nextdoor.

Tree branches all over the place but nothing crazy. The tile guys doing my bathroom left their saw outside on its stand and it barely moved, they're lucky.

Power was supposed to be restored at noon but didn't come on until 8:30. They shut off 55,000 people but an additional 100,000 lost power so it turned into a big problem. Twitter was peak Twitter with the, "The winds are gone, just flip the switch." through "That ****** Polis punishing us conservatives." to "This is how they control the sheeple by cutting power for 'safety'."

As if the brutality of Mother Nature isn't enough, your power company adds insult to injury. The silver lining seems to be the entertainment served up by Twitter.

Meanwhile back at the ranch I'm eagerly waiting to see if the partial eclipse here can part the clouds. I'll be shocked if it does, but shocked by lightning seems more likely.

Chose not to drive to my friends in N Central Arkansas because the weather looked questionable as of Saturday. Didn't want to drive ~900 miles each way to not see the eclipse.

Of course, first thing I hear on the radio this morning is a report that the best viewing will be in New England, with a stretch from N Central Arkansas through Ohio being pretty good; the high clouds there shouldn't interfere much.

I fully expect to hear from them about the best experience of their lives. Sigh.

I was in the path of totality for the last one. It was kinda cool, but definitely not the best experience of my life. More like, worth going outside to check it out, but not worth more than a couple of hours drive if I weren't already in the path.
