Great question. I'm torn on this kind of thing.

I had a profoundly physically disabled guy deliver pizza to my building once. He called me and said that I "had to come down." He didn't mention the reason.

At my building, it's more common to have to go get your food outside than it is for the delivery person to come to your internal door. And I think it's great that someone with this guy's abilities can be gainfully employed.

Much like poker dealers with t-rex arms though, I can't help but recognize that there are people out there who would be able to perform every duty of the job who probably should be doing that job instead.

I always thought that T-Rex arm'd poker dealers should have a stick (similar to craps) to aid them in working.

Anyone here drive for Uber?

I wouldn't grade the bad knee person negatively.

People know this about Uber/Lyft and will milk the system anyway they can to get a few bucks.

Out of morbid curiosity I read the driver forums on the uberpeople website and almost daily there's drivers telling stories about being deactivated because a passenger lied in an email to get a refund. For instance real example that happened in Vegas: sociopath drunk entitled millennial leaves the club at 3am and asks the driver to stop at taco bell. Uber pays the driver 15 cents per minute to wait, but the driver does not want to wait in that 30 Minute late night line, nor does he want to risk having some drunk get his crunch wrap supreme all over his backseat. The driver declines the riders request, the rider gets pissed off and one star rates the driver. The rider uses the excuse of inappropriate driver behavior and says that the driver was intoxicated while driving. Uber automatically deactivates the driver without proof and refunds the rider their $10 ride back.

Stuff like this happens all the time. Being in Vegas, I've overheard people all the time say "Just complain about your ride and they're going to refund you. Uber is great!"

Allin,

In California, it’s pretty common to see dealers with a stick to pull in bets.

Yep. The tiny Asian women use them all the time. Often it's an incense holder.

Whether or not the exact anecdote really happened, it is 100% conceivable, and wouldn't surprise me at all.

UberEATS is the nuts. Have used it plenty.

I ordered sushi at 10:15pm. My choices before were basically pizza.

Strange just to walk up to a car, not exchange any cash or credit card and get amazing food.

How much did UberEATS cost you when you ordered the sushi?

Also, which sushi did you get?

Total new demand by this restaurant. They don’t deliver.

You’ve never had anything delivered before UberEATS that you paid for online or on the phone with a credit card?

I don't recall ever NOT handing over a credit or cash for anything (not including UPS/USPS.)

I've only been asked for my CC and ID once (Pizza Hut) and I could tell the guy wasn't all there, felt really strange.

You order a pizza pie online, pay for it before delivery, then hand over a CC? This makes no sense.

When I ordered a pizza online or by phone with a credit card I still had to sign the credit slip at the door and tip with cash. I'm guessing this felt different because he didn't do either of those.

Quick question- if you have an accident while driving for Uber, does your insurer cover the accident?

Every single time. They want to see the credit card. And then you have to sign for it with line included for tip.

During a ride you are covered by Uber's insurance company which by all accounts is pretty terrible to deal with.

If you are running the app as 'available' and haven't been pinged, you're on your own.

Get trade insurance addition to your insurance. It's getting more commonly offered.

Consensus among drivers is that Farmers offers the best deal.

Edit: damage to your car is always on you. Uber covers liability towards the passenger. Supposedly.

Interesting...and scary.

***Uber wants your restaurant spending data. They want to know which restaurants you visit, which cuisines and dishes you prefer, and how much you spend every time you visit.

This isn’t a new endeavor, but rather them doubling down on UberEat’s recent success. Available in more than 120 markets globally, UberEats has grown by 2400% between March of 2016 and March 2017. Profits from UberEats have actually eclipsed ridesharing profits in markets like Tokyo, Taipei, and Seoul.***
