scam seems unlikely. he's probably a rules nit irt parking and the app is known to function poorly.

i would label him a dick for making you walk to the car though.

Odd because the 'wait clock' starts automatically. If he just sits there for a few minutes, he can cancel, pocket a few bucks, not have to give a ride at all.

Wait by the stores. Or text, telling where you exactly are.

Also shopping centers are the nut low for drivers.

"That's Walmart. Ah, ****"
Said every Uber driver ever.

Second nut low is "can we drive thru (burger place)?"

No. **** you.

Naturally these two combine often.

I got a scam vibe immediately when I asked him why the clock was already running. I was stern about it, and he was then overly nice as compensation

The new Uber update suckkkkks. Turns off in the middle of rides, freezes. Wouldn't surprise me if that was real. Honestly he probably started the ride so he can see the destination, so he can put it into the Google or WAZE map, so when you got in the car you were ready to go. As opposed to you getting in, starting the ride, figuring out where you are going and then having to enter the destination in WAZE.

The update that caused Waze to not work sucked as well. Had to install an older version of Waze to make it run.

I would use the British chick voice for nav. Pax loved that ****. For some reason.

You've basically convinced me that my driver may be as deranged as you are, and not realize he did something wrong. I'll write that email now.

Isn’t Uber like 16 cents a minute or something? Seems like a horrific scam, after Uber’s cut and taxes he’s basically making nothing for 1-2 min delay and risking bad reviews/emails etc. Could be of course but decently likely an error/phone malfunction.

40 year old guys driving and angling on Uber aren't math driven folks. There is a bar in the shopping center, so he may have had to wait a while before, but until the wait time threshhold of 2 minutes or whatever is hit he isn't supposed to start the meter.

No it doesn’t. Most rides don’t begin in a parking lot so you can’t do it on every ride and you’re probably netting like 8 cents a minute doing it. Even if you pulled it off on 50 people a week (seems extremely, extremely generous) that’s $8/week if you scammed each of them for a full 2 minute. Risk/reward isn’t there.

I agree that 40 y/o Uber drivers aren’t mathematicians or analyze risk but still, it’s a bad scam if that’s what it was

Uber driver at the end of his rope that's circled a shopping center one too many times. Plan B immediately park and shutdown for optimum mpg and a nice little break before they find the car.

I would like to see more people driving for Uber. There more cars on the road the shorter time it takes for everyone to get a ride at their location. Especially with Halloween coming. The surge pricing will be ridiculous if there are not lots of drivers on the road on Tuesday night.

I ordered food from ubereats and accidentally had the wrong address selected.....my office rather than a hotel around 10 blocks from my office. Took about 15 min for the driver to get to the hotel. I gave him a 10 dollar tip cash, but he drove off pissed. Not sure if 10 was too low? I was polite on the phone and said it was my fault when he told me where he was.

You paid another drive for making another drive, him being pissed is just another example of service people with ****ty service skills or people skills.

$10 cash in that situation is assuredly better than what he's making but given it's not like it's that much money relatively compared to normal tip, seems reasonable he may still be unhappy.

But like kero said the guys probably a few cards short of a full deck.

What do you mean? You log in, tell them where you are, they pull up a list of participating restaurants, some guy picks up the food and brings it to you.

One thing I'm not sure will work but have wondered about is if you're out drinking and want to get takeout and uber it home, can you walk to a restaurant, order ubereats with your home address, and ride with the ubereats dude home? It would be cheaper than ordering food and taking it home in a regular uber.

I meant from the drivers perspective. An uber driver gets pinged with a McDonalds order, drives through and picks it up and then delivers?

That's the expert play from long before ubereats

I think ubereats is its own thing that you sign up for as a driver.

I've noticed a severe plunge in quality of Uber trips over my last 6-8 or so in Portland. Although tonight I would have gladly paid my dad's completely unjustified $5 fine just to watch him get progressively confused why the Uber driver on his map turned around 6 blocks away and immediately issued him a fine. It really did make no sense and the next driver said to contest it immediately.

I took an uber for the first time in over a year earlier this week (I've been using lyft exclusively) and I talked to the driver about uber eats (this was out in a suburban area, heading to an airport). He said he likes ubereats better, because generally he doesn't have to drive as far to the pickup point (they don't get paid for that driving) and he can do a larger number of small trips in a given time period since most of the deliveries aren't very far.

I would guess the calculation would be different if you were in a dense urban area.

Also, he uses two phones, one for uber and one for ubereats, so it clearly is a separate program.
