Maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised at the number of people ITT that have spent time in jail.

This is America! You should be surprised if someone hasn’t done time in the joint.

Can you escape and what would be best method?

LOL. No.

Jail sentences are typically so small that no one tries to escape. But like I said, there was a prisoner awaiting trial who committed suicide last month.

He committed suicide in prison? How? I imagine they make it difficult.

Any chance of getting a cell phone?

If you had to choose an escape plan, what would it be?

Golf,

There's a difference between jail and prison.

Also, quit tarding up threads.

Thank you.

He committed suicide in jail, I believe during the "classification" stage I mentioned earlier, when you are locked in alone.

Cell phone? They have phones in the pod and dorms. You have to call collect or set up a line you're dialing that takes the charges. I.E., you might "buy" 555-1212, so that when you dial it from the phone your gridlfriend picks up, it rings over to her cell. for instance. Guys who have that set up typically are doing longer stints and are on the phone a lot.

I spent more than half my time staring at a wall and the rest of it playing Spades. I have no clue how to escape from jail when you're essentially wearing an orange onesie and locked down 24 hours a day.

I don't watch much TV at home, and so it was a real .... well, it ****ing sucked, to have that **** blaring 15 hours a day.

During the daytime, pretty much all we watched were "true crime" stories. FBI Files, American Greed, etc .... which struck me as hilarious.

Evening was whatever primetime shows were on. Inmates check out the TV section of the local paper to decide what to watch.

Nighttime, everyone was in bed around 11 p.m. That 70s Show would play until midnight, and you could hear everyone laughing and chatting about it, then laughing about it the next AM. You take what you can get to be amused with ...

Can you get drugs?

Do the COs carry guns?

I am correct in understanding that you don’t have a criminal record nor do you have probation. No alcohol classes either.

I have no record, nor probation. I was mandated to do an alcohol assessment and the resulting treatment recommendation.

However, having gone to jail and served the max sentence, there's nothing the judge can now do to compel me complete treatment, should I fail.

We all love a good prison break story. Many of the best movies revolve around it.

There must be some way to break out of your jail. Lowest level of security, right?

These inmates broke out of jail and filmed it! Tons of selfies.

Well, you were there voluntarily too, so probably didn’t cross your mind.

So most of the guard-prisoner interactions get to be rote. Yeah, I have to do certain things and so do you, and eventually you get them all down. Cell door opens, take tray of food, say thanks, eat, slide it back under the cell door ....

Guards come through every 30 minutes at least. They swipe in at sensors within the pod or dorm that requires them to see every cell.

Lots of joking between guards and prisoners, especially if there's a shared sport or team .... everyone wants to flirt with the female guards, but it's all polite and low-key.
First, thanks for the thread.

Do you find your day to day now that you're out still in any kind of similar routine?

Do you feel noticeably different in any ways after having gone through it all?

Does spending a night in a tank count as 'going to jail' or being sentenced and wearing issue clothes etc only? Asking for a friend

What type of work do you do if you don't mind me asking. I thought you were a pharma rep or something in healthcare. What type of colleague sells meth?

Don't forget Cops. We watched so much Cops. You'd think they'd be sick of sirens.

Did you have anyone in with you who was a sex offender or anything like that? We had one. Whenever asked about his offenses, it was something vague like "assault" and he wouldn't really go into details. Someone on work release googled him and found out he had actually molested a child. Things got pretty tense and I actually thought he was going to get the **** beat out of him. Luckily for him, no one really wanted to pick up an extension on their stay by picking up an assault charge. He kited himself out to solitary shortly thereafter, never saw him again.

You never get used to that. I'm pee-shy to begin with.

At first you try and wait until people are asleep. Or at least nobody at the table. They don't want to see that either. But this guy Manuel, Manny, he said eventually you just don't give a ****. He's doing a 15-month sentence, and I think he's been there about a year.
At least you got to flush after you were done.

A friend of mine went to low-security Fed prison. He got beat the hell up right away, judging from the pictures I saw. It looked as bad as the movies.

I think I read several books in jail, including two-thirds of the Satanic Verses. Also, Slaughterhouse 5, Flush, Factotum, Little Alters Everywhere, one of the Maze Runner series. More I think, but I can't recall offhand.
A friend of mine did 5 years for armed robbery. He was a very smart dude that did things to make him easy to catch. He was a little sick in the head that way, wanting to get caught. Anyway, his prison had college courses, and he left the place with a Bachelors degree, free of charge.

I was charged with a misdemeanor DWI, which comes with a maximum year in jail. Which of course is pretty uncommon (to do jail time) for a first-time offender.

The DA's first offer to me was for 2 years probation. That's actually the moment where I realized we weren't ****ing around.

Ultimately, I pled guilty to a DWAI, which is a violation-level offense, like a traffic ticket. No criminal record. But to get that "deal" I had to take the max penalty (15 days in jail). It did come with lesser fines.

I could have taken the misdemeanor with what's called a conditional discharge. They set aside sentencing and you go w no probation or time, assuming you do certain things. But if you don't do those things, there's a year you can be sentenced to.
What was their evidence? Breathalyzer, or just roadside sobriety tests?

I can understand it. Most people have a job where at least one boss is in your face all day long, basically threatening to take your living away from you. There's a lot less stress mostly sitting around in a cell.

I'm a hospital pharmacist. She was one of my techs, got caught with 500g of meth and a bunch of other stuff. While out on bail, she got caught selling more meth. While out on bail the 2nd time, she got caught selling more meth again.

Thanks. That does tie into this thread that you are truly screwed if you **** up probation or parole. You are in essence serving your jail sentence out in the community. They can throw your ass in jail in a heartbeat. I had a friend out on probation who they alcohol/drug tested whenever they felt like it. If he failed, that was it. Straight to the slammer.

I thought the general idea was that if you are pulled over and still drunk now, you must have been even more drunk when you were driving before you pulled over. I agree that despite that logic there is an incentive problem though.

This would be horrible for me as well. I would probably prefer solitary for the entire stay, as long as it was under a month.

I like how people want to make jail a better experience.

**** that. It's jail and it's supposed to be ****ty to deter you from coming back.

Keep people safe, feed them food just good enough to sustain life and that's it. You shouldn't have any of the comforts of the outside world. You lost those rights once you stepped foot into jail.
