Moving is tricky. Don't want to provide exact details, but it's like working in a highly specialized position in the only nuclear power plant in the country. We get shafted in pay, because it's company policy that we get paid industry average salaries, i.e. we get paid the same as every other power plant employee, even though nuclear work is harder and more complex (I imagine, I am not actually a nuclear engineer). Everyone who leaves the team does so for a management position in another power plant or moves to a similar position abroad. I don't have enough experience for either.
I got paid double that as an intern in a power plant. Where in the hell are you working?

It's got to be Armenia, Iran, Netherlands or Slovenia as those are the only countries with just one nuclear power plant.

Could be Spain or Portugal. Those aren't bad salaries in either.

So you wanted a 10% raise from 24k to 26.4k. Then thought you would be promoted with a 40% raise, 24k to 33.6k with a management title. Then when asked for figures you said you would get a 25% raise, 24k to 30k. Are you saying that instead of a 40% raise you would now settle for a 25% raise because you are scared that you will not get one at all? Or are you not that great at math? If it is the latter please do not press any buttons at the nuclear power plant.

And lol, nuclear power plants are not a safe place to work. One of them broke one time.

An afternoon off for an interview may create some movement. Ask for a few hours during the day, come into work in a suit w a new haircut. Sounds like your boss can't lose another employee.

If the company underpays for your industry, why have you been there so long?

OP believes that his job is similar to the job of a highly specialized worker at a nuclear plant in a country where there's only one nuclear power plant. I think what he means by that is it would be difficult for him to change jobs. But how that idea can be squared with this...

It's really simple. If you're so undesirable in the market place that your only recourse to getting no pay increase, is to whine on a forum, the you probably don't deserve a pay increase.

Rapini,

He gave a reasonable explanation that all those people were more experienced than him.

I said how... they moved abroad. The difference is that they have 10+ years of experience and I have 4. I know I can probably move abroad to a different position and earn much more, but this is not an easy decision and there are a lot of factors in play.

Lol @ "undesirable in the market place". I can get a new job in a week and get paid the same or more. I said that I like my job... I don't like the pay.

The law of supply and demand would like a word with you. They have you right where they want you.

I like my job, and would hate to leave, but I still have them giving me annual raises and hustling to keep me.

Fair enough. I apparently misread that part.

My apologies if you did in fact say that they changed countries. I didn't see it.

So is your education, training, and skill set 100% non-transferable to another job or industry?

They are transferable, I have a degree from a world renowned university and well-recognized qualifications. The problem for me is that I like my job, it's pretty cool and prestigious and gives me a lot of good options if I stick it out for another 5 or 6 years, as proven by my colleagues who left. It's like, for example, if you work for Tesla, at the forefront of modern technology, do you move to Ford to assemble bumpers on their ****ty cars, just for 20%-40% more in pay? I admit that I sometimes consider it, telling myself "who cares about what you do, we work for money", but it's hard to leave doing something you like just for cash.

Then why are you bitching about it?
Either leave and make more money or stay and quit whining about the pay at "the job you love".

Wiki,

Are you a top producer at your job?

Also, do you have a cat?

Might be a bad example, because everything in a nuclear power plant is pretty redundant compared to a non-nuclear. And lots of red tape. So probably working in a non-nuke might be harder. As non-nuke have 1/3 the people for the same size plant.

Might that be the case here?
