The HBO Doc Low Country : The Murdaugh Dynasty is good to get the whole story. He stole Millions from his clients and was addicted to opiods for many years and allegedly killed his wife and son.
The trial is about 3 weeks in and I have been watching a lot of it, it's streaming live on Law&Crime Network Youtube channel weekdays.
Middle of next week prosecution is supposed to be done calling witnesses and then defense starts. It's been pretty entertaining.
In the middle of this video is the most damming evidence so far, he claims he was never at the dog kennel that night, but just minutes before the murders his son posted a video and he didn't know that.
There was at least 5 people that testified that the 3 voices were his wife, his son(the 2 victims) and Alex and they were 100% sure.
There is a ton of circumstantial evidence but no actual evidence and SLED(South Carolina Law Enforcement Division) really botched a lot of stuff, or they helped him cover up.
Also, after calling 911 he was in fresh clothes than others had seen him in earlier.
I just don't understand the motive. How does the murder of his wife and son "distract" from his financial crimes? If someone else murdered them, he's still getting in trouble for stealing all that money.
Yea, that part is weird, maybe he couldn't bear the thought of facing his wife when she discovered all the lies, crimes, and theft.
He did ask them both to be at the kennel that night for whatever reason, and I think his wife mentioned to someone else about that being strange for him to do that.
His financial crimes have revealed that he is a complete scumbag, and the judge has allowed that early this week, but instructed the jury to not judge his character based on that or to the think that a man capable of committing these crimes is also capable of committing murder, but only to go with prosecution theory of motive. Yea OK. lol
A few years ago his housekeeper of 20 years fell on the stairs and was taken to hospital and was in a coma before dying. Alex said she tripped over a dog laying on steps, no autopsy.
He told the housekeeper's 2 sons. He would get them 100k each from an insurance policy he had on his house, meanwhile he collected like 600k on 1 policy and had umbrella policy that paid I think another 3 Million +, he collected all that and kept saying it would be awhile to the sons and never paid them anything.
The sons actually got over 3 Million from another settlement though, nothing to do with Alex.
He was also being sued for 30 Million for the boat accident that his son Paul caused that killed a young girl, since he was drunk, and his wife was going to find out all about financial crimes. That was Paul that was murdered.
One of the main problems I have with this is the guy blowing his own son's brains out. I understand why a husband and wife might want to kill each other. I know plenty of married people who despise each other and probably wish their spouse dead from time to time but to do that to one of your children in a violent personal way I just don't understand.
I just don't understand the motive. How does the murder of his wife and son "distract" from his financial crimes? If someone else murdered them, he's still getting in trouble for stealing all that money.
This was a new one for me, never heard of asking for a directed verdict. lol
This judge has been pretty awesome throughout the trial.
It came out in court yesterday that a day or 2 before the murders, his wife and son that were murdered found a bag of his pills and the son confronted him. Prior to this his family supposedly didn't know about his addiction all these years.
So that is a possible motive, along with his wife about to find out about all his financial crimes and lies.
Today the defenses witness alleges that the shooter or shooters had to be 5 foot 2 to 5 foot 4, so Alex 6 foot 4 could not have done it. On cross he was made to be a fool though. lol
This is a short clip before cross.
Also today lead Defense Dick H. had the weapon in his hand for a demonstration and happened to have it pointed near the prosecutor (Never pointing it at anyone) and said "It's tempting" and everyone laughed.
Of course, it was funny but I can't believe he would make a joke like that in a double murder trial. lol
For those asking how he could murder his family, opioid addiction comes before everyone and everything. Add to that he is a scumbag of a scumbag of a scumbag, and it seems completely trivial that he would be able to spray his wife and kids brains all over himself and the house.
Every witness the defense has called the last 2 days has not turned out very good for the defense and got blasted by the prosecutor on cross. This should be a blast.
