trader joes-

1) they sell these almonds that are covered in honey then covered in sesame seeds. DO NOT get these unless you want to become obese. I eat like 15 servings at a time. So good.

2) why can they never stay stocked up? I go in there some nights at like 9pm and you'd think a hurricane was coming. No cat cookies (for people), no spicy kung pao chicken bowls, no applegate farm turkey dogs, no vegggie gyoza. Bah!

the one near my house has bags but you have to pay for them, like a quarter apiece or something. I guess it's good for the environment

The one here is the only one I've ever seen, but it's really small, like 3 aisles. Are all of them that small?

They have some decent generic stuff pretty cheap, but like someone else said, you really can't do all your shopping there.

private label brands = cheaper prices

I think they have some name brand stuff, but I haven't been there in quite a while

You have to put a quarter into this little lock on the shopping cart in order to unlock it from all the rest. When you're done, you relock it to another cart and that releases your quarter. So if you're leaving and give your cart to another customer coming in, they give you a quarter

Pram is a British English term for a baby carriage.

When we were little, and lived in Cali, my mom would sometimes let my brothers and I go up to strangers and offer to return their cart for them so that we could get the quarter. We'd do this for like 10-15 minutes then go in and get some sweet ass sticky hand things or jawbreakers from the little machine.

There's an Aldi's in my town. I've lived here 8 years, and never been in the place.

I'm-a check it out tomorrow.

Aldi is good. They tend to have delicious german/polish meat products for not very much money. Delicious!

They also have a big pile of random non-food stuff in the middle of the store. No idea if there are good deals there or not.

Oh, not sure where I channeled the word "buggy" from.

There's a Big Lots and a Saves a Lot just a couple of blocks from where I live. These are the two most low-rent places that I know, including the local Wal-Mart. The Saves-a-Lot doesn't even have shelves--they just stack the bulk boxes on top of each other and cut a whole in the side. This is also the only place I know of that sells pork chitterlings in Upstate New York, and in ten-pound tubs at that.

Immigrants anywhere are much more likely to shop at places like Aldi. They don't recognize the brands there, but they also don't recognize the brands in any other supermarket, so they go for the cheaper option.

The ones in continental Europe are the best -- similar selection to any other supermarket, but better prices. I also had one with a good selection in Australia. There are a few here in Ireland but if I go there I always end up having to get a few things somewhere else, I don't know if they are better or worse than the US ones.

does it tilt anyone else when people add unnecessary possession to the name of a store? Isn't it correct to say "I'm going to Aldi..." not "I'm going to Aldi's.." ?

Does anyone go to Wal-Mart's? Best Buy's?

This seriously keeps me up at night. Am I in the wrong here?

Ppl say buggy here in kentucky.

You have to rent your buggy at aldi for a quarter at least the ones in eastern Kentucky. You also have to pay 10 cents for paper bags.

They are dirt cheap on produce.

No, it's to cut costs. Customers must either bring their own bags or pay for the ones the store gives them.
