The show was better at the beginning because it was 1 on 1 interviews that lasted 40 minutes to an hour. Now it's 1 hour 30 minutes to almost 2 hours. I don't mind Alison and Bald Bryan but I think the show flows better when Adam is 1 on 1. Check out some of the 1 on 1s with Ken Burns, Albert Brooks, Seth MacFarlane, Sammy Hagar, and Rich Eisen. You are telling me that the show is better than those? Those are some of my favorite podcasts ever. This year has been a ton of unfunny bits with Jay Mohr, Jo Koy, and occasionally DAG. It's not really interesting hearing tales from the cheap calls, the Rotten Tomatoes game, or hearing terrible songs being played by David Wild.
Wow, we really are opposites, and that's fine, but just curious: do you enjoy those long improv bits where Jo is the Chinese restaurant owner? I lump that with the Teddy P. improv by DAG. Just so repetitious and tedious.
But variety is the spice of life. Glad to know someone is enjoying the other bits.
Get it on.
I loved it the first few times. Their revisit of the Brown Sugar bit this past week still had me cracking up when they brought in baking soda and some new parts of the bit.
Speaking of live episodes, listening to Friday's Dana Gould episode live @ Irvine Improv and it's a perfect example of why I love live shows. Dana is KILLING it, so funny.

I insta-downloaded this one and will listen later.
You notice that certain guests only show up for live shows? (Dana Gould being one)
It's because they know they will get an engaged Adam and they will be able to get a word in edgewise. They got sick of showing up and doing crap in studio.
Adam has talent out the wazoo. Part of that is given, and part is worked for. Sure he's been lucky. But he also has the goods.
Which is why it's so disappointing to see what he's become. A drunken old man who schleps around the country doing the same old act. Remember all that "be a factory, not a warehouse" advice? He's been mailing in the podcast from the warehouse for years.
this.
those years of the Loveline radio days, Adam killed it every night. Part of the problem now is that his interview list on the podcast are only people that are inside his comfort zone.

Adam making fun of how dumb the callers were, was always great. He just kisses their ass now which is lame.

Dana stole the show something fierce. He was brilliant.
Best pod in quite some time.
I f***ing love Adam. It was embarrassing how badly he destroyed Gavin Newsome & HuffPo.

And some bonus material. Here's Adam discussing his HuffPo interview with Dr. Drew:
Thoughts on Alison Rosen getting the boot? His facebook page seems upset, though the commenting crowd may be a self-selecting sample.
I guess I was pretty indifferent towards her.
Wildly insecure rambling like a 13yr old girl at times about what other people are thinking or how she should think. Didn't really challenge Adam on anything politically, which I would've liked even as someone who agrees w/ Ace 90% (though I doubt he would've wanted this). Pretty much useless at live shows.
OTOH, was funnier than Stern's Robin or typical female sidekick. Didn't get in the way too much. Tough to find someone better who is also content & doesn't want to do their own thing. She says she didn't ask for more $ and was fired via email. That's cold.
Today I unsubscribed to the AC podcast. The fact he did this in this way to Allison is beyond cruel. To work with someone every day for 4 years and then sack them by email is just bad form. IMHO Allison is a great part of the show, and as some may say she doesn't do that much but thats her job, to be a sidekick, not try to take over. I think Adam is starting to think a bit too much of himself and not realizing that the success of the show may be partly due to his co hosts. That short intro to this years first show where he spent about 30 seconds telling us Allison was gone was beyond arrogant. Allisons responses have been very gracious.
Whatever, its his show and he wants to "go in another direction" so good for him, I wont be coming. I know Adam would say "thanks for the support until now Bovvaboy"
BTW Allisons podcast "Allison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend" is currently numer 7 on the itunes podcast most downloaded while the AC Podcast is 33. Dont know if this has anything to do with it.

I'd guess it most certainly does. I downloaded hers this morning for the first time in a year+ just to see what she had to say about the whole thing - I'm sure I'm not alone. Unsustainable.
Tough to argue with you though. He just seems like such a better person than that in general; I guess I just want to believe there's more to the story.
She didn't add much, and was just going through the motions in the few podcasts I did listen to. Or maybe she just isn't much of a performer.
Being a fan of Adam, and being shocked someone got canned in an email, are mutually exclusive.
I kind of had a knee jerk reaction to Carolla's high-level speech about dumping Alison Rosen. Seemed like there was some sort of contention between the 2 but after listening to his explanation today I wasn't as mad. What I'm more mad about is him replacing her with some radio hole (really, Carolla is the most qualified sidekick you can find coincidentally is a woman?) I think all of his radio background is too ingrained in his head; probably heard one one too many speeches from radio ad execs on hitting the female demographic.
I subscribe to the podcast but will only listen when there's a good guest on (Patton Oswalt the other day was the first time I've listened in months) but even then the guest doesn't come until 50 min in and they're usually only on for like 15 min before they do some dumb radio agenda item. "Hey guest this conversation is awesome, but we gotta read these bull**** news stories." Its a podcast not a radio show. One of my favorite episodes I've heard was David Choe a few months ago. He basically told Adam how he used to be such a big fan but now his podcast is one big commercial.
^ Yeah, that David Choe podcast was great. That guy lives the life.
I'm a fan of Adam's and find his comedic instincts to be superb. His off the cuff riffs are great. But the way he handled the Alison thing really turned me off. I like Alison and identify with her neuroses and insecurities.
I was a big fan of Alison Rosen on that podcast. She picked her spots but was very funny imo. Pretty sure he will not do better with any future sidekicks. HUGE mistake for him, and he looks like an ******* the way he did it by email.
Will still tune in to see how the transition goes, but I suspect this will be a slow downward trend for the show.
I love the AC podcast (except for the live ones and the ones with Jo Koi) and hearing him announce the firing of Alison Rosen hit hard. I've always loved the contribution that she and Bald Bryan make to the show and I hope she goes on to great things. I actually shot off an email to the show...a first for me. I'm seriously thinking of dropping the podcast now. Kind of weird hearing the news without Alison's intro.
Firing Allison might be crushing for the show. You can't replace four years of history. That first episode was awful. Will be pretty awkward for Adam and Bryan to have to explain every reference and story.
Alison didn't add enough to the show. Adam's explanation on the show made sense - basically saying that she was subpar as a sidekick. I remember hearing Teresa at one live show a year or so ago and realizing why a friend of mine who has been listening for many years hated Alison. Teresa was probably much better. Adam should be able to find a replacement that's better than Alison.
