I just glanced at the other thread for a minute and I'm curious, was this your first offense? I see you spent over a year in maximum security. It always blows my mind when I read stuff like this regarding drug sentencing. I got possession with intent to deliver just under three sheets of acid, weed, and shrooms and was given two years suspended. I spent ten days on work release and ~18 months on probation. That's it. Is there some kind of mandatory sentencing for ecstacy in Virginia or something?

didn't even get to your last sentence before i decided to respond. yeah it's the ecstasy. They treat that the worst -- don't mess around. Similar trends starting to appear in Florida.

Just read the well thread, I'd recommend it.

What were the circumstances around your relapse?

How long did you relapse for?

Did you go back to prison?

LFS: Do you think addicts become addicts for different reasons? Who do you think you abused drugs? Do you think there was something deeper going on inside of you or was it as simple as recreational use leading to physical addiction?

What kinds of stuff do you talk about in rehab-related talk therapy?

--While I believe people can be born with addictive personalities, i'd definitely say other contributing factors could weigh more into someone becoming an addict (enviornment, family life, etc.).

I come from a very close family and live in Virginia Beach, which I believe was 2004's safest city in the country, so it's not like I was some kid struggling in the ghetto or anything. I would say it was mostly just recreational use leading to addiction, but after the addiction set in, it digs deeper and deeper and changes you from the inside.

SLT: how difficult is the boredom of sober living for you? have you exhausted all of your endorphins or can you still appreciate simple pleasures?

--I hold a job and live a normal life, I don't live in an alley or anything, so I'm not very bored.. I would say i've definitely lost alot of appreciation for things over the years.

Kuroush: Post a pic of your gf again.

--The old pic should still be there...

CatfishKing: what do you do for a living and has the criminal record affected your professional or personal life?

--I work in telemarketing (not as bad as you think but don't really feel like changing the thread topic) and definitely being a felon has limited me in so many ways. I tried to join the military like 2 years ago and they basically laughed.

Oddjob: is heroin really that good?

--no, not really worth it.

TheUnTouchable: Do you think that the best way to clean up heroin usage would be to hunt down whoever is distributing the OCs, or would that make it worse since it would increase the price of OCs even more and lead kids directly to heroin?

--Honestly I haven't really thought about it that hard. There definitely needs to be more education and awareness, not to sound like a crazy liberal or anything. Also, like I said I come from a middle class family in virginia beach, and work for a living, so no on the sucking dick for heroin...

Oddjob: what is the most shameful thing you've done to score

--Lied to my mom about the reason I needed money.

Omar Comin: OP do you have a type A personality?

--Definitely, but I love weed.

O Fen: when you mean relapse is that like you shot up once? used for a month on a consistent basis? longer? do you use other drugs/alcohol?

--No i've gotten to having a habit again recently. I don't drink but I smoke weed religiously and probably always will.

livinitup: How in the hell did you actually make the conscious decision to do it that first time?

--It didn't seem that weird to me. I'm not really the type that is grossed out by needles, and I bought them brand new from the pharmacy.

Phil: Hopefully OP can add to it from first hand, but i read somewhere that the progression is usually to go from smoking it to shooting it, so by the time you are shooting it for a better high you are pretty addicted already.

--Never smoked it and don't know anyone who does. I went from snorting to shooting really quick.

TheUnTouchable: Is shooting it that much better than snorting it? I could never put a needle in my vein either.

--Yes

RacersEdge: I am totally clueless about the drug culture - how much money are you spending per hit and were you always going to same dealer to get the heroin? Are there issues with it always being "good" stuff? Where are you getting your money from to finance your habit?

--Around here I pay $70 for a bundle (10 bags/caps). Know a few different guys mainly went to the same guy because his stuff never changed, it was always good and he would come close to me rather than driving to the ghetto.

I'll get to more in a little while.

How prevalent and everpresent was drug use in jail? Even in maximum security, it's supposed to be easier to get drugs in prison than outside. Did prison help at all in your recovery? Did they detox you beforehand or just throw you in to suffer?

No, I wouldn't say rock bottom. I still have a job, a car, an apartment, and a family. I can't afford to do heroin everyday from a financial standpoint as well as the phyiscal/mental obviously.

I'm addicted to cigarettes (although I started smoking when I was 22, in prison. I know, lol), probably to weed, and used to be somewhat dependent on xanax. I wouldn't say i'm addicted to anything non-drug.

Brief criminal summary: Arrested for poss/int ex pills, poss/int weed, and was given 8 years suspended and probation/community service. While on probation caught charges in new jersey while on Phish tour (yeah dumb idea) and caught a felony heroin possession in Virginia. The violation is basically what did me in, although what the poster below you said about them being rough on ectsacy is also true, however being that I was an honor student and it was my first time in trouble they were lenient.

The relapse was basically my own stupidity and not realizing that getting over opiates is a lifelong struggle. I started using daily for probably 6 months, and no I haven't gotten in anymore trouble.

Hell no.

Jail time was definitely good for me, I learned alot about human nature and many other little things that are hard to describe to someone who's never been there. The craziest thing was probably testing positive for methamphetimines like a week before my release. I was scared as hell I was gonna have to serve more time, but when I demanded a second test, it showed up clean (as it should of, I didn't do or see any meth in there).

Tony: describe the first minute after shooting heroin.

--warm sensation throughout body, you can taste the heroin running through your veins in a similair way that you can taste cocaine running down your throat. If you're dope sick, within ten seconds you get completely well, it's actually astonishing.

ALK: What is the longest period of soberiety you've had? How often during an average day do you think about using herion?

--About 3 years...every day.

Beatngreet: How prevalent and everpresent was drug use in jail? Even in maximum security, it's supposed to be easier to get drugs in prison than outside. Did prison help at all in your recovery? Did they detox you beforehand or just throw you in to suffer?

--Yeah there were plenty of drugs but about 5 times as expensive as street drugs. I got clean immediately after getting in trouble so by the time court rolled around I was about 8 months clean, so no I didn't suffer.

Where do you live? did you transition through a sober living house?
I have a friend that went down most of the same road as you. He is straight two months now and living in a sober living house.
He is very worried he won't stay straight. I tell him he needs to find an alternative like rock climbing or dirt biking that he loves to have a focus in another direction.
I'm not sure how to help him and the counselors say only he can help himself. True?

What did you say to yourself when you were straight to keep from using?

When you say you've lost appreciation for stuff. I mean do you think that the drugs had opened your eyes to the fact that basically everything is pretty much awful, or is it more that everything was a lot more fun whilst high and anything else has a lot to live up to whilst straight?

What's the nastiest place you have injected into?

Thanks for doing this.

How was the detox this time?

Is heroin easier/harder to get now?

Did you go back to the same people to score as from your first addiction?

Have you ever tried numorphan? It's supposedly as good as opiates get.

Do you consider yourself a loser? Do you think others do?

Do you think this time it's actually over for good?

What was your thought process when you relapsed? Heroin addicts seem to constantly relapse. Did you think you would just do it once or did you know that you were going back to addiction?

I got a Demerol shot in my ass when I broke my collarbone. Is that pretty much the same feeling as heroin?

Do you believe that weed is a "gateway" drug?
