Ya, I was driving on 395-S and it thought I was going north about 20 miles east of the highway. Not terribly useful imo.

Interesting. Also have s3 and noticed my GPS had gotten jacked up recently. Question for you guys. Are you running a custom ROM? And do you have location reporting and location history turned on in Google settings?

I happen to be on a custom ROM, so attributed the problem to typical ROM bug. With location reporting turned off GPS got wonky. I turned it back on and GPS worked properly again. Lolsamplesize tho, only used it once since I turned location reporting back on tho.

As an aside, I've had this phone since launch and have been pretty happy with it, but I'm very ready to get rid of it.

My GPS has also gone full ******. It's not off by 100 miles but sometimes it'll just stop working every thirty seconds or think I'm on a road 100' away.

Toggling airplane mode always fixes it. I thought it was an AT&T problem but I guess not.

My Nexus has acting up recently; frequently lagging and even freezing completely. I think I might try a factory reset. What's the best backup option?

My gf and I have been having GPS issues too. It just takes a minute or so to lock on initially, then it's fine.

Yeah I definitely have more GPS issues than before but I'm pretty sure that has more to do with being on a custom ROM for the last 8 months (Verizon S3). It worked pretty well on the stock ROM, though it did have minor issues every once in a while.

People used to recommend downloading a GPS Status app from the Play Store and using that to wipe GPS data and then re-initializing your location (I'm probably not using the correct terminology). Might still be worth trying?

XDA is usually a good source for stuff like that.

Motorola is having an event on Sept 4th to cover the next Moto X and Moto G, the Moto 360, and some sort of earpiece.

Latest I've heard is that the Moto X+1 is being released on Sept 23 for Verizon (not sure about other carriers). Hopefully that's true - I'll probably be buying it. We should know for sure in a couple weeks.

Yep, looking forward to that. Wonder what the price will be. If they keep all the cool features of the X plus motomaker w/ the expected 1080p screen and a good battery and form factor again it sounds like a snap call for my next phone.

Allegedly, BestBuy allegedly accidentally listed it for an alleged price of $249.

The leaked $250 price point for the 360 made it really interesting to me. I am still not sold on whether I need an Android Wear but I think it is likely I will pick up that, the LG or the ASUS depending on design and price points.

I am pretty curious about the Samsung VR goggles expected to be revealed in their Sept 3rd event that apparently I will be able to slot my GS5 into and have Oculus Rift style VR. I am not really into gimmicky add ons like game pads but that is pretty amazing if it works and if it is priced correctly I will definitely buy one even if it is just for the novelty factor like the Google Cardboard let alone if they bring out some really good VR games for it.

Yeah supposedly it's a 5.1" 1080p screen with the other Moto X features. Hoping for Moto Maker still, but aren't they closing the Texas factory?

And yeah, I'm also hoping they keep the cheaper pricing as I'll be buying the phone full price. Under $450 for 32gb would be awesome.

That was the Moto 360 smartwatch, not the Moto X+1. That looks super sexy and I want it, but not sure I can justify the price for something that is an accessory to my phone and will be obsolete in a couple years. I've already got a real watch that I've worn practically 24/7 for the last 10 years (including in the pool/ocean/shower). So it would be an adjustment period to have to charge the watch, take it off at night, before showering, etc, and then having to replace it in a couple years.

They did, I work there and my Sup and I were reading an article on it and it linked to the BestBuy.com, it was snap taken down though

I'm waiting to see what the HTC smart watch will look like

If you're rooted, then Titanium Backup.

Would appreciate some thoughts on this:

Went in to get a new phone today after having fried my S4 from swimming with it (I know, I know...) I'm on a family plan and wasn't personally due for an upgrade, but my brother was and I was planning on using his (and giving him mine next spring). Anyways, the Verizon rep helping me tells me I can instead enroll in their EDGE program, which would allow me to walk out of the store, new phone in hand, only needing to pay for the tax on the device today. Of course, the second he tells me I would then be paying $32/mo to pay off the device, I'm like no wai bro BUT he then pointed out that since my family is on a plan with >10gb of data, I would also be getting $25/mo taken off the rest of my bill (essentially increasing my monthly payment by only $7, while also giving me the freedom to upgrade, not to mention saving me over $150 in the immediate).

I was going through it with him with a pretty fine comb but I can't help feeling like I'm still getting scammed. But the above seems like a decent enough deal, no?

I don't get why you're saving $25/mo. How long does ur bill increase by $7 (How long does it take to pay off the phone?). Compare that to the $1-200 you'd be paying one time for the phone upgrade.

So they take an extra $25/month off your bill by you enrolling in their EDGE program? Or.... Why?

Because you're paying the full price of the phone over the 2 years. You can upgrade once you've paid off like 50% of the total but, again, the full amount of the new phone is spread out over the contract life.

Haha, I hadn't seen that before, but pretty awesome.

Sadly, all of my screws were still tight after having the phone for 2 years. Some posters were suggesting that you shim the GPS sensor with a piece of paper, but not sure I want to do that when I'm getting a new phone in a month or so...

I don't understand the economics on Verizon's side. You're paying an extra $32/month for the phone but they take off $25 for EDGE, so an extra $7/month over 2 years is $168. So essentially paying the same as you would for an upgrade (actually cheaper if you're getting a $200 subsidized device) but you're not burning an upgrade. Factor in the time value of money etc. etc, what is the catch? This seems clearly the way to go.

Because he's on a family plan with multiple lines.

Say you have 4 people on a plan. 25 off per month for a 2 year plan is 600. Now instead of having each person pay 200 for their phone they pay full price which is about 600 for most high end phones. That's 1600 in addition money for the phones so they still come out having you pay 1000 more.

The consensus of the tech community when the Edge program first premiered was that it is a scam.

Yeah, I saw that and definitely see that side of it, but that also doesn't take into consideration the $25 credit I'm getting every month, which was the only reason I did it.

I can't be sure until I see the bills, but after going through it again and crunching some of the numbers, it looks like a small loss in the long run if I don't upgrade, but more or less worth it if I do. At any rate, it's pretty close and the immediate savings were a benefit right now as I'm moving and not working for another week.

I was in the same boat, I couldn't figure out the scam and also got $25/month reduction so I went for it. I figured after a month or two of seeing the bill I'll figure out how they're screwing me over.

In related news of getting screwed over, can someone give me an explanation as to why the US, which is a huge market for flagship cell phones, is getting a lesser version of the Note 4 than every other country on the planet?
