I upgraded to Marshmallow 6.0 this morning. Plugged in my Nexus 5 to my PC to transfer some music over and there are no files or folders on the device. Anyone experiencing this?
Anyone ever used, or know someone who used, Swappa.com to buy a phone?
i haven't purchased but i sold on swappa, there had to me IMEI checks, proof i had the phone( ad it was functioning) in my possession by taking a picture with the phone on next to a piece of paper with my seller ID and seller number. Seemed pretty stringent, i think it was safe for the buyer, that said, there may be ways to scam
I would watch out for repaired phones. Almost all repaired phones are not disclosed.
Repairs are often obvious on iphones because of scratches on the apple screws. Many of these phones probably have new non-oem screens. I would bet this is really true of the dealers that list 10's of phones.
Nexus 5 recently updated to Marshmallow and ive noticed an increase in battery use, seems to die much faster. I though this new "doze" feature was supposed to increase battery life: that works automatically correct, nothing i need to "turn on"?
I haven't change my usage in any way, but now im getting half a days use before the battery goes below 15%.
I may flash a custom Rom and recovery and see if that changes anything.
Got the 6.0 update on my N5 as well. I haven't read the patch note but I noticed they changed AGAIN the way sound profiles work. Now, you have an option in the pull down menu where you can select between alarms only/priority only and total silence (no sound whatsoever for those really scared to have music played out of the phone while browsing facebook etc).
Regarding doze,
Quote:
You won't have to do anything to use the new Doze feature. There are no switches or settings you need to toggle, and once you've updated to Marshmallow it just works. That is, when it's supposed to work.
For Doze to kick in, your phone needs to be sitting still with the screen off, and not connected to a charger. That means no moving around and nudging the gyro or other motion sensors, no touching the screen or the buttons and no waving your hand around in front of it if you're using a phone like the new phones from Motorola that have motion detection on the front bezel. Set it down, and leave it alone.
as every year when you update to a new major version , wipe your phone and wait a few days that it settle before worrying about battery life
Going to let it settle for a few days, when i get back form a short trip ill wipe and reinstall. Ill may try to use nexus toolkit and install the factory image directly form google IF nexus toolkit supports 6.0 it yet, otherwise ill just download the image locally and use ADB/fastboot commands.
I have a Galaxy S5 (Verizon) running Lollipop. I am interested in Rooting this phone, I just can't seem to figure out the best way. Everything I am reading online sounds like this is a very difficult phone to get Root access on. Any resources to point me in the right direction?
You recommend install->factory reset? I've never updated major OS versions before.
ETA: (as opposed to the other way around and/or other types of "wiping", if there are any?)
The problem come from the data you carry over from one version to the other usually . I d recommend updating. Testing and if it doesn't feel right wiping with a factory reset to start from scratch.
Updating without wiping is not allways necessary but if you are unlucky it's a safe bet to save time and at the same time you get rid of a ton of junk you never use anyway
My nexus 5 was stuck for a few hours trying to update to android 6. I restarted it but no it's rebooting on a loop, with a "no command" message. I've looked up the issue but most guides recommended flashing the phone and wiping everything which I'd prefer not to do (yeah silly me, not doing a back-up).

Experienced the polar opposite. To the point im holding back on a new phone to take more time to decide.
Have any of you fellow Androidians tried Google's Project Fi service?
Short answer? No.
Longer answer? I've ordered a 6P through Project Fi that's supposed to arrive in mid-November. I've read some reviews of the service that are pretty scary but figured it's worth a shot as I can potentially save some serious money. If it doesn't work out as hoped it's real easy to cancel and I'll just sign up with another carrier.

Interesting... All I've heard is it's either amazing/revolutionary/switches between stuff seamlessly or at worst that it's mostly the same and you can mostly tell when it switches. Graaanted... This is coming from what's likely a heavily biased reddit community.
I watched the video. I still have no clue what this is about. A network that connects to other networks? Is this a Silicon Valley trailer?
OK, I got it. It's sort of a international carrier. They must have brokered deals with tons of carriers so that the user experience is the same everywhere. I like the simplicity and philosphy behind the idea but $10 for 1GB is lol expensive.
we are super lucky in france about cell phone and home internet , hard to compare to other countries
I m sure project fi would be insanely cheap for cannada
