switched to Moto X from an iPhone about a month ago and have been having problems receiving texts from iPhone users. tried the most common things suggested online and have been in contact with apple trying to fix it. anyone have a similar experience or any work arounds? not a huge deal as i communicate with my friends over a wide range of texting/social apps but it would be nice not to miss out on iMessages.

Can't really compare it to other 7" tablets although I've had a quick play with my dads kindle fire HD and while its also a good bit of kit, I'd guess its a decent amount behind the nexus.

Probably the most happy I've been with anything I've bought in the last 5 years. Oh and I have the older version.

PS.. Would recommend the dock, a little expensive but good for watching movies. It also protects your USB connector which can wear after time. Also, and this might be nonsense, but I feel I get more out of my battery after charging through the dock.
damn you guys are definitely selling me on it. is the newer version leaps and bounds better? sounds like the 1st generation one is still a great bargain. from what i've read the 2nd gen one has a better screen and more memory and a better processor. just have to decide if the extra $100 is worth it. hmm

It's worth it.

I'll save you the sales pitch to say that I will also pimp up the 2013 Nexus 7 whenever it comes up in conversation.

So many people love it to ****ing death that I will be shocked if you are disappointed.

I'll play devil's advocate and ask what you want to use it for and what phone you have now. I have an S3 (so 4.7" screen) and to me the extra screen real estate wasn't worth it. Sure it was better for Netflix and games, but I was looking for something that would work better for web browsing and emails, and the experience was wasn't dramatically difference to using the phone. It really is just Android on a bigger screen.

I ended up getting a Chromebook (the $249 Samsung from late 2012) and I've been quite happy with that choice. Larger screen and full keyboard at basically the same price makes it better for typing out stuff and browsing the full web. Battery life isn't as awesome as I'd like, and it's kind of slow, but otherwise it's been great. I can only imagine that the newer ones are even better.

The new Nexus7 is fantastic. Trust me, nobody would be disappointed with this tablet. At least I dont see how. I cant find anything bad to say about it.

I'm taking my S4 into the sprint store to get a new screen sometime this week. Got a hairline crack today. Should I unroot to be on the safe side? Im still running the stock OS.

Do any of you guys with the first gen Nexus 7 have issues with charging time? I've got a few micro usb chargers, and I'm pretty sure that one is the original so not a phone charger that may give less umphh(?), but it takes about 6-7 hours for a full charge no matter what charger I use. I seem to recall it was only a few hours when I got it.

Yes yes yes. Pretty sure rooting voids the warranty on the device itself.

Just as a heads up, If they give you a new device, it'll have the later software on there. On the S3, that means you would not be able to load a custom ROM, though I believe you can still root. I'm not sure about the S4, so you may want to check that you'll still be able to do what you want if they give you a phone.

I know to some people, being able to root/ROM/etc is more important than a hairline fracture =)

Dukemagic, how could having a later software stop you from loading a custom ROM if you're rooted? I've never heard of that before. Or is it just that no ROM coders except for CM have the latest android out yet?

Samsung introduced a new way of locking down the bootloader in 4.3+. On the Verizon S3, I believe you can still root but cannot install a non-Touchwiz ROM (like Cyanogenmod). I'm not exactly sure since I rooted and put a custom ROM on before 4.3 came out, so I haven't needed to worry about it.

The S4 is a newer device with a larger community, so perhaps the devs have figured a way around it. But it's something to consider.

Check out XDA for more information. Here's a Sprint S3 thread about Knox.

Edit: sorry I think I misunderstood your question. If he takes his phone in and gets a new one back, the new one will be unrooted and on Android 4.3, which has a bunch of extra features that Samsung added to make it more difficult to root and ROM. The developers may have figured out ways around it, but just wanted to give him a heads up.

Is there some way of telling Google Hangouts "Do not notify me if I have gmail open on my computer"? If I'm gchatting on my computer, every time I don't check a message in like 5 seconds my phone goes off. But I don't want to change how my phone works when I'm not on my computer.

Everytime ive taken my phone into the sprint repair store for a broken screen they have just replaced the screen on the same phone. Never had to get a new phone. This is why I was asking if I should unroot since I am still running stock, will they still be able to tell/care enough to know im rooted if theyre just replacing the screen.

Ill probably not get it fixed if they have to replace the phone. Replacing the screen is free, while a new phone has a $150 deductible.

Yea, every charger was different ime. Since I switched to using the dock, it fully charges in 1-2 hrs.

I wish there was an easy way to find the charge rate for cables. It varies, a lot, from something like 400mah to 1200mah.

Ah gotcha. Do you pay for a protection plan of some sort? Otherwise well done on getting them to replace the screen multiple times for free.

I'd say you're most likely okay, but there's always a chance of getting the rare employee who actually cares.

I think part of the difference is whether the cable is a charge only or a data/charge cable also.
Those with the ability to pass data don't charge as fast as a "charge Only" cable.
an example is a charger that plugs into a wall outlet and has a dedicated cable coming out, its not designed to pass data and usually charges faster than the USB type.
This will charger faster:

Than this:

Isn't the mah always stamped on the adapter?

yes, but many times the cable attached doesn't support the max mah listed.

Yeah sprint TEP which was great with my last phone (original EVO) which was a brick with a case and had an extremely fragile screen. This is the first time ive had an issue with the S4 screen after multiple drops + no case. I have the zagg invisible shield extreme which was great but I think on the last drop I dropped it on the one weak point (just above the samsung logo/earpiece) and it has a very slight hairline crack across the notification bar, which can be ignored.

Ill update with my experiences at the sprint repair with the S4 after I take it there this weekend, since I cant find any reliable information online.

What I'm saying is I don't plug anything in to a wall that has an effect on that. I only buy modular USB cables.

Buying the cables it's very unclear what it's rated at. Total PITA

qi charger is still the best option for your desk. I used to cringe everytime I plugged in the USB port, I could feel the port moving more and more over time. You can get one for 25 bucks nowadays.

That power socket is sexy tho.
