Yeah, I'm happy. I just thought it was funny that the tech guy wanted me to do a factory reset when I couldn't even turn it on.

What are some of the first things I should look at getting for the phone to experience Android better and really utilize this new phone on a day to day basis. I just started working at a local IT company as well and will be accessing a lot of DropBox files and stuff that we use to manage clients so that will be nice to have more screen as well.

I'm also on ATT, so will I be able to just take out my microsim from iPhone 4 and pop it into the Nexus or will I have to go there to get something straightened out?

Thanks for any tips or recommendations.
1st: read the FAQ in the first post of this thread. should answer 90% of all basic questions.

also: decide early on if you want to root or not (because to root, you need to unlock the bootloader and this deletes everything on the phone as a security measure. therefore, do it right at the beginning if you want to do it).
if you want to root, look at xda forums as recommended and if you then still have questions, feel free to ask them...

if you want to sync specific dropbox files / folders automatically, use dropsync.

It is quite annoying how badly Google Now's location settings drain the battery. I had turned them off a while ago due to battery drain, but I guess they got re-enabled because I've had terrible battery life the past week or so. I finally got around to checking the Location Reporting and Location History settings, and they were on. Turned them off and the difference in battery life is hugely apparent even after just a few hours. Went from almost 10% per hour to about 1-2% per hour when not in use.

Does anyone know what features Location Reporting and Location History actually affect? What am I missing out on by turning those off? I haven't noticed anything.

idk, maybe the time to drive from work to home status.

That reminds me, yesterday I had my phone drain to a level that the charger wouldn't charge it. Grrr. The last time it happened I was able to trickle charge the phone til the phone was bootable. This time that didn't work. I had to remove the battery and direct charge it.

This has happened 3 times for me. I think it's when one of my apps/widgets crashes/misbehaves and drains the battery hard.

Sometimes Internet pages don't load on my galaxy s4, it's just a blank white screen. Anyone else have a similar problem?

I've heard this too. Not that I have come across it yet as I just got the s4. I forget what the particular problem is but does anyone have an answer to it?

On another note, anyone know of a solution to a friend's s4 problem where she can no longer charge her phone (or has great difficulty in doing so) because she thinks she might have dropped it in water?

She has no insurance but can she make a claim against Samsung? How much would it cost to repair? Is there another cheaper way?

I have an issue with Web pages where if I go in and out of the browser (multitasking or lock) I come back and the screen is all black until I scroll around.

she thinks she might have dropped it in water? wat?
if the phone doesn't work anymore because it got too wet, she's SOL. (all phones have several "sensors" inside that change color if they get wet).
of course there are (sometimes) options to repair it, but no one can tell how much this will cost exactly and if it's worth it.

Mine never used to until this ROM I'm using was installed. I've had it happen a few times now. Hasn't bothered me really yet.

Star Command is free today in the Amazon app store!!!

A game that's very similar to the popular PC/console game "Faster than Light"

I actually bought the game last year.

Best e-book reader? I like Alkido, but my pet hate is it not displaying what page number you are on. You have to bookmark to get that.

Are they epub format books? If so you can upload to Play Books here:
https://play.google.com/books/uploads
The big benefit is you can just stash all your books in the cloud like with Kindle and (I havent tested, but have seen it stated) it will sync progress across devices just like whispersync.

Other than that and ignoring the Kindle app, Moon gets a lot of love and I didnt find anything wrong with it when I used it.

Wow, was basically too lazy to charge my phone for more than 10 minutes today and I'm at 49%, usually I'm under 70% before I get to work in the morning and dead by 3 if I don't charge. Sick.

I had a problem where my phone wouldn't reconnect to a wifi network. It would just continue to use the cell network.

I solved it by factory resetting the phone. Works great now.

Is the S4's screen that much better than the iPhone's? 326ppi vs 440 but I'm sure it isn't all numbers. I can't imagine thinks looking more sharp than they did on my old iPhone.

Highly recommend it. My gf has an iPad but I would never swap. It fits nicely in one hand so is very comfortable for browsing/reading. I can also keep it in my inside jacket pocket and use it as a music player/radio while I'm out.

The home screen layouts can be themed in a million different ways to suit your taste(I'm probably on my 20th layout) with widgets for newsfeeds, social media, music players, weather updates, you name it. It virtually never lags for me, the chrome browser is extremely slick.

Can't really compare it to other 7" tablets although I've had a quick play with my dads kindle fire HD and while its also a good bit of kit, I'd guess its a decent amount behind the nexus.

Probably the most happy I've been with anything I've bought in the last 5 years. Oh and I have the older version.

PS.. Would recommend the dock, a little expensive but good for watching movies. It also protects your USB connector which can wear after time. Also, and this might be nonsense, but I feel I get more out of my battery after charging through the dock.

Absolutely love my Nexus 7 2013, perfect size for travel and consuming information. Battery is fine, screen is superb and coming from iOS (jailbroken) devices user customization/freedom is great. What iOS is slightly better at is that everything feels more "connected", which is due to their limitations, its like a train going on tracks without bumps while Android is more like a driving a Hummer off road, you can drive wherever the **** you want.

+1 on the nexus 7. I have the 1st Gen version still and love it. Perfect size, incredible battery life and ridiculous price point.
