I would pay at least $10 for a version of mobile chrome that doesn't auto-refresh the page every time I bring up the app or switch to an already-open tab. Browsers don't do this on the desktop, why do it on mobile, when refresh times are usually slower?

That really frustrates me. Especially when you open something to browse later when you may not have internet access.

Yeah no kidding, and it isn't even a full refresh, if there are new posts on a page for example, it doesn't load them.

Is it possible yet to forward an email to a group contact??? I have to do this like 5 times a year and my head explodes every time I realize it's still not possible*.

*as usual I assume there's a good chance it's possible and I'm too dumb to know how.

Seriously, you should read that article because it very likely addresses your answers in a detailed and high quality manner.
oh, do you mean the ones that are all $125+ over my budget? yeah, those. I appreciate your response(s), and I did read the whole link you had in the first response. Of the 5-6 in the article, only 1 was sub $250, and it was the Asus memopad. While that one is the newer model, i bought my 5yo son the old memopad for this past christmas and it is complete ****. I'll looke around for a few more weeks, but may end up just buying the 2nd gen N7.

Compared to the 2013 n7:

Pros:
I like the bigger display for pretty much everything.
It seems a bit snappier changing between apps.

Cons:
I have to remove my case to comfortably use my swift keyboard whereas the n7 I didn't.
The 2p2 app doesn't work right for some reason. I think it has something to do with the resolution and screen size. However browsing 2p2 on the chrome browser is fine if not a bit inconvenient. I set up a 2p2 bookmark on my homepage.

You can find them for around 210 on amazon refurbished. I got mine refurbished in February and it still is running strong.
I really love my Pro 8.4. Perfect compromise size and has replaced my laptop and chromebook entirely and I've found the battery life to be great in normal use, inc streaming vids to my chromecast, but still small enough to carry with me daily in my normal size bag.

Around three times the screen area if my S5 which is a good ratio imo.

No cons tbh. Never use a case, my Bluetooth keyboard works fine, never had crashing issues and it's really smooth. The two big negatives were supposed to be not great battery and sometimes lags but I've not seen lag switching apps and I get a solid 6 hours constant use from 100% until it's telling me to charge and I consider that to be fine for a consumption and light productivity device.

The S 8.4 tab or whatever its called is better stats wise with the same footprint size so get that if you don't want a second hand device.

Thanks everyone. The Tab Pro seems like a solid choice at $235. The newer Tab S does have better specs, but at $125 more it doesn't seem worth it since 75% of my usage is watching netflix.

Stats wise the tab s is so similar that it's really not worth mentioning unless they've released a newer model. The one thing I liked about the s was the slightly smaller footprint. It's not worth the price jump imo. Video looks fantastic on it. Looks like they have some new ones. It's an absolute steal at 235.

this is standard in chrome beta since 1 or 2 weeks (meaning you don't have the change the flag manually anymore). so it should make its way into normal chrome version in a few weeks. just fyi.

With my S6 when I'm in a texting conversation I don't get any notification sound unless I back out and go to my main messaging menu. So if I text someone and put my phone down I'll get a response text and not know it. My gf has the same phone and the same problem. Has anyone found a solution(I've tried Textra and it didn't fix the problem)?

Edit to the above: I downloaded the "Verizon messages" app from the play store, changed it to my default messaging app and it fixed the issue

Weird, I haven't seen that problem with either S5 or G4 (both with Textra). Might be something funky with your notification setups... or the S6. Curious to hear if anyone has the answer.

Fwiw, I have the same issue with my S6. Haven't bothered to really research a fix yet though.

On Google messenger when I receive a text while the app is open the notification sound is quieter and it doesn't vibrate. I wonder if this behavior is some sort of Android design guideline.

I'm looking for an offline maps app for my upcoming vacation.

A quick google search shows that the Nokia app 'HERE' is pretty popular. After looking at it, I'm trying to figure out what's in it for Nokia.

Free app, free maps, free routing. What's the catch???

Does anyone know how to send a scheduled message in Textra?

It lists it as a capability in the latest update, but I can't find where to do it.

When composing a text, hit the + button to the left of the text input section. Then click on the clock icon in the toolbar that is at the bottom of the screen.

I don't have the clock icon or a toolbar. Only the keyboard at the bottom. I don't see a setting to turn it on or off.

Weird. I'm on version 2.36. You're hitting the "+" button, right? Here's what I see:

I did pay so I'm a "Pro User" but I don't think that matters?

I really like phonescoop.com. You can add all 4 of those phones to a table for side by side comparison.

I'm 95% sure the answer to this is "no", but I just want to check. There's no way to use iMessage on Android right? I'm on T-Mobile and texting is a giant cluster**** with them. It works probably.... 99% of the time.... which sounds like a lot but results in a lot of annoying hickups when you send hundreds of texts/week.

Hangouts works beautifully, but my gf is on iPhone/ATT already using texting and iMessage and she's pretty opposed to managing a 3rd (2nd?) messaging app on her phone.
