There's an Android app called "Smart WiFi Toggler" that pays attention to which cellular tower it is connected to, and learns which tower correlates to which saved wifi hotspots you have connected to in the past. With that knowledge it automatically switches over to wifi when possible, both to save battery life and to save data usage. It's pretty cool.

Unfortunately, it hasn't been very useful for me the last year or so, because the way I use my phone is incompatible with it. If I turn on my personal hotspot, doing so will force Wifi off, which subsequently disables Smart WiFi Toggler. I pretty much always have my iPad on during my commute, with the hotspot on my Samsung OneNote 3 (AT&T) acting as my internet. What I am commonly experiencing is I arrive to work or to my house, and many hours later realize my iPad is still chatting away with the internet via my phone (instead of the readily available and free wifi choices it could be using).

Is there anything that will, in a similar fashion, intelligently turn off a personal hotspot? Or is there any other way I can get my non-phone devices (ipad, itouch, galaxy tab, chromebook, windows laptops, all connect to my phone at various times) to automatically stop using personal hotspots when a better option is available?

I don't know if this is what you're looking for...

There's a widget called "Hot Spot Toggle" in the play store that will reactivate your WiFi (if it was on) when you turn off the hotspot.

can you prioritize different wifi networks on the ipad? then you just give your normal home network a higher priority and the ipad switches over to that as soon as you get home.

or you can use tasker to deactivate the personal hotspot at specific locations (home / work).

I noticed Chrome for Android now has a 'Refresh Page' feature activated by pulling the window down (like the email app). Sadly, it's only useful at the top of a page.

I wish it had the feature where you could tap the top of the screen and it would auto bring you to the top of the page (IOS has this)
didn't realize how often i used it

LG G4 might end up putting up a good fight against the S6. http://www.androidcentral.com/lg-g4-hands-on

Big draws for me are the non-touchwiz OS, bigger screen size (but still significantly smaller than note/nex6 which I don't think I'd want), removable battery, and maybe the SD card. Concerns might be how the performance ends up comparing vs the S6, since they downgraded to the snapdragon 808, and the S6 cpu sounds beastly.

I bought the Nexus 5 for the updates and I'm starting to think it's actually a bad thing. Windows doesn't necessarily get better with each update and it's sad to see the same thing w/ android.

I still think the G2 is their best phone. Only half kidding. 5.2" screen in a compact body w/ a great battery was pretty slick.

Wireless charging still annoyingly not built in. Not sure if it's the size/shape or stitching but the leather somehow looks way worse than on the Moto X imo; though it's not required.

You're not alone with those opinions. I had the G2 and it was def my favorite phone so far, but never followed what people thought of the G3 when it came out. What got worse about it?

Yea I definitely agree about the leather too. Supposedly it looks way better in person, but I don't see myself getting it anyway. Also it costs extra, so lol that.

While I'm at it, wireless charging is definitely a potential concern too. Although I've never had it, so I actually don't know what I'm missing. But maybe I'd get a pad or something if I chose the S6.

Just personal preference. To me the extra size isn't worth .3"s of screen & the screen isn't worth the battery sacrifice but ymmv.
I used to think wireless charging was a gimmick but turns out it's pretty cool if you have an office job. Not having it isn't a big deal, but either offer it or don't imo. Samsung got that right this yr.

Yeah I'd rather have a substantially bigger and swappable battery than wireless charging. My Droid Turbo supports wireless charging but I've never felt a need for it because my battery just lasts all day regardless of what I do.

LG G4's battery is about 20% bigger than the S6's, and you can swap it for when you're away from a charger for a long time or when the battery starts to go bad in 18 months.

Seriously, phones are too thin now. Give me the extra battery life and non-protruding camera lens.

Same. Sadly I'm still running kit Kat because of all the lollipop issues

Bold is a silly statement IMO. Maybe the phone is half as efficient and the battery ends up lasting 60% as long? I think batteries - like CPU performance - need to be treated by stepping back and looking at real world usage statistics, which I'm very much looking forward to. This is also why I'm not instantly anti-G4 because its processor is worse on paper.

just get an external charger. I far prefer it to swappable batteries. future proof, can charge other devices, and you get the benefits of the non removable battery (thinness)

my battery on my Moto X is now awful and I don't even care and I'm someone who used to care the most about battery life.

I was anti cell phone the past 8-10yrs but finally broke down and bought an S6 Edge. I really liked the style and a few friends have them so I was able to check it out first.

Pretty sure I'm going to really like it as soon as I figure out everything.

I'm continuing to not update to lollipop on my note 4. I have zero complaints with my current setup and haven't heard of any new features that are worth the risk of the negatives people have reported.

Completely agree. If more and more phones go the way of the S6 (design over function) I'm gonna be pissed.

so textra is going premium...and they still haven't fixed certain issue with auto-rotation to landscape( IE if i text a picture and want to add text and rotate the device, textra does not rotate.) so ill look at other options ..ant recent or up and coming SMS apps?

Curious why you'd even want to rotate in that situation? Or ever really besides watching movies or youtube.

Between the Nexus 6, Note 4, LG G4, OnePlus One, iPhone 6 Plus and any other phone I'm forgetting, I think you're covered. Two years down the road I'll be shocked if there are still phones with < 5" screens.
