On a more personal scale, this one hit hard: Dwight Clark was the guy I pretended to be every single time I played (Nerf) football as a kid, because of the Catch.

And I had the chance to meet him as an adult; he couldn't have been friendlier, more gracious, or eminently approachable/down-to-earth, all in a way that very few pro athletes are. I got the sense he genuinely enjoyed talking with fans, and wasn't just servicing the obligations of fame.

Deeply saddened by his passing and surprised by what appears to be the sudden nature of his decline.
