New book by D & B Publishing

Why Alex Beats Bobbie

I have not heard of author before coming across this book. He does come from an academic background which may interest Mason.

Dr. Konstantinos Palamourdas, otherwise known as Duncan, is a UCLA instructor, author, columnist and researcher who gained international acclaim through his innovative contributions on the mathematics of poker and education. He is one of the first academics to successfully bring such a unique subject into academia.
Duncan holds two master’s degrees (one in pure math and one in Computer Science) and a PhD in Mathematical Logic. His versatile mathematical background and love for teaching has helped him offer classes on a variety of math-based subjects over the years. These range from the basics (Calculus, Algebra, Statistics) all the way to Machine Learning, Measure Theory, Differential Equations and, of course, Advanced Poker Game Theory.
His signature style of communicating otherwise complicated concepts using relevant metaphors and accessible visuals has made him increasingly popular with his students who typically form large waiting lists for his classes. Duncan has also been awarded the Robert Sorgenfrey Distinguished Teaching Award in recognition for his teaching contributions.

Looks like an interesting read.

Hi avatar:

We're familiar with the book since we turned it down. But our reason for turning it down was simply that we felt it would not sell well enough for our time and effort to produce the book. But that's not a negative on the book, it simply reflects today's market for poker books, and the book is fine in my opinion.

I won't get more specific than this since the version being published by D&B may be significantly updated from the version I looked at -- I don't really know. But I suspect that if you buy it, you'll be happy with the purchase.

Best wishes,
Mason

Hi avatar:

There are a number of books which are currently published by other publishers which we initially passed on. But it doesn't mean the books are no good.

For instance, D&B Poker currently publishes four books that we turned down. Also, D&B author Jonathan Little recently claimed on this website that we also turned him down and that wasn't true (which he finally admitted). In addition, D&B has anther author and if you read the Introduction to her book it sounds like we weren't enthusiastic enough to get her work, but apparently that was another publisher and we never heard from her.

That's just the way this business sometimes works.

Best wishes,
Mason

I hope it is not becoming a badge of honour to have been turned down by 2+2.
