Hi Everyone:
Here's a preliminary version of the cover of our next book. It should be available in June.
So who are these people. This is from the book:
The Front Cover
Our front cover shows pictures of four of the people who are featured in this book. They were chosen to be on the cover because of their skillful plays and expert gambles.
The top left is Isabella I of Castile. She was able to become Queen with complete authority at a time when it was only the Kings who had complete authority. Today, she’s best remembered for approving Columbus’ voyage to sail west which led to the discovery of the New World, but there was much more to her than this one decision. Her story, “Being the Queen in a World of Kings,” starts on page 29.
The top right is Francisco Pizarro. Through skillful gambling, in South America, he managed to defeat an Inca Army of 20,000 when his force only numbered 180. His story, “Treachery as an Art Form,” starts on page 36.
The lower left is Confederate General Robert E. Lee. He used expert poker tactics to win two significant battles in the American Civil War, and on a different occasion, again used expert poker tactics to save his army. There are three chapters on him. They are “The World’s Greatest Sem-Bluff,” “Bluffing at Antietam,” and “More Robert E. Lee.” These stories start on pages 130, 138, and 140 respectively.
The lower right is John F. Kennedy, the youngest person ever to be elected President of the United States. He also skillfully used poker tactics during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. His story, “Poker in the Caribbean,” starts on page 152.
But this book is not about only winners who made expert gambles. It also contains a lot of people who would fall into the “foolish” category. But we felt that only experts should appear on the cover.
Best wishes,
Mason
