Looking too find some good quality basic entry level poker math books, I'm not very good at maths at all , but want and need to increase my understanding of it with regards to poker, as stated looking for real basic entry level or someone who specialises in teaching poker math to idiots lol

be it books or articles essays etc any advice pointers etc would be much appreciated

I have found one I like the look of called Poker Math That Matters by Owen Gaines, anyone read this, would it suit my needs maybe?

Thanks in advance for any help advice links etc,

The book you mention is just what you need. There is/was also a very extensive thread on here, with many contributions from the author.

For a basic entry level book you would probably find this book more suitable:

"Essential Poker Math: fundamental no limit holdem mathematics you need to know." by Alton Hardin.

It's a lot easier read than Owen Gaines' book for a beginner imo.

I've taken an hour this evening to browse Owen Gaines book, well the first few chapters, from what I've seen its likely going to be what I need too work with, I like the exercises and examples given, I think taking a few weeks to go over this will be hugely beneficial to my game, I can see myself sat with a calculator, note pad and pencil whilst logged online playing in the not too distant future

It will be an uphill struggle lol but just a look at some of the examples of EV in the chapters frightens me because I've seen hands there I've lost money on time and time again sure maths frightens me but not as much as spending my future in poker with little or no understanding of it, if I can find the discipline to get through this I can finally stop relying on luck and always wondering if I really have improved

My recommendation is not to read "Essential Poker Math: fundamental no limit holdem mathematics you need to know." by Alton Hardin, as it is full of calculation mistakes. If you feel like Owen Gaines is the right book after reading a few chapters, just continue to study it in details. Do not bother about Alton Hardin's book unless you want to use it for testing you poker math by finding all the mistakes in the book.

Thank you for taking the time to point that one out, I will get a copy for certain, as I know it's very sound advice you are offering

Ive a copy of your highly rated book, 'The Theory Of Poker' its sat on the shelf, its my sort of poker graduation book too the next level of my game , once I'm fit too put down the very basic books and handling the maths well enough, heard nothing but positives about it, by all accounts a timeless classic that has improved many top players, so I do appreciate the maths related suggestion

all the best Richard
