This book is nothing short of excellent. Thank you, Zach, for an indispensable addition to my ridiculously sprawling poker library. After adding Reading Poker Tells to it, I now don't care as much that I may never get back my copy of Caro's Book of Poker Tells that I lent to a friend. (No offense, Mr. Caro, but it is that good.)

A quick bump for the audio version of the book ... it's a great, easy, informative listen with good voice work from the author. When taking a long drive across Colorado I had the opportunity to work on my tells.

Listening and thinking about previous hands I know there are clear spots I've been giving away free information about my hands. I found at least 10 things I can fix/adjust and strengthen in my game.

Bump made Zach an extra $10 as I bought and read the thing in about three hours (not a brag per se, just a voracious reader).

What I really like is that Zach differentiates how to perceive potential tells based on the skill of the players. Caro gave a reliability score based on the player's skill, whereas Zach correctly outlines situations where the same exact tells could mean the completely opposite thing when it's from a weak player vs a strong player, or within the context of the hand.

Bottom line, I love the basic tenets of anxious = weak, and strange = strong. I plan on tightening up my own expressions more, while also pressuring my opponents a little more to gauge their anxiety..

Just finished reading the book. Excellent content and I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to add to their win rate in live poker.

Yeah, still working on it, thanks for asking. Plan to have it published by end of May. It'll be called Verbal Poker Tells.

There's some pretty good info and excerpts on Zach's site including a way to preorder if interested. The excerpts are worth a check and read alone. I would link it but I don't think il allowed to (not sure)

Bought an ebook, didn't finish it yet, but what i read so far is great, looking forward to the new book. Blog posts are excellent as well and are a good supplement to the book's content. Overall, definitely recommended.

I dont think another live tells book has anything new to offer other than being a new pack and possibly costs less. One plo8 book had some stuff about online tells but i guess some nlh book i havent read also rates to have but dont need them.

Took him three years to rate it. I guess he's a slow reader.

This is true for me too. After reading navarros book and starting to apply it my results have improved dramatically. If this book is as good as everyone is saying it is worth its weight in gold. I will be getting a copy.

a regular player calls me on the flop, the turn, on a board of 579 (with 2 clubs) K and 7 comes on the river. he calls a small preflop raise, the flop and turn. i have 10 10. surely he isnt calling me down with a 7, im thinking maybe a bluff?

on the river he bets $60. im thinking of calling, but he suddenly puts $1 on his cards slightly pushing them forward while he waits. isnt that a tremendous sign of strength? anyway i fold. would like others opinions of what this means. needless to say i left the game immediately before i got stuck.

Looks like a good fold to me Tony.

If he's putting the $1 on top I see two things:

1) he thinks you are about to fold and is trying anything to induce a call

2) he is going to give the $1 to the dealer either way. It would be awkward to flip the cards and lose then not give the $1 if he is a reg. he expects to have the best hand.

My take is he had a monster hand. Prob a flopped set and then a full house. All you beat is a missed club draw anyways.

Hopefully Zach agrees

Tony -> You tell this story completely differently on your blog so now I'm not sure. It matters as to who was first to act on the river. I thought he was first to act? It also changes somewhat based on your tiny turn bet compared to the pot.

You left out the critical details! Can you spell it all out properly here with all the info you can remember about the hand and any info on the player?

I know you're joking, but actually Mason was kind enough to review the book pretty quickly after it came out in 2012. He sent me a very nice quote which I still feature prominently on my website.

I was surprised, actually; most of the more well-known people I sent the book to I didn't really expect a response from, or at least not that quick of a response. So I felt honored.

I have a whole bunch of poker books sitting on my desk, so I'm slow to get to them all, and some I probably will never get to.

Best wishes,
Mason

i've been holding off on buying this book for no good reason at all, finally purchased it, and I'm currently about halfway through it. Last night I was able to pick off a $600 multi street structured bluff based almost exclusively what I learned in the book. In the past I probably would have folded river.

What was the tell that helped you decide to hero call?
