Hero is mid-70s white guy.. playing home game NL tourneys for about 15 years (mostly 1 table, occasional 2 tables).. probably 6-8 times a year. Has sprinkled in some low-stakes MTTs at local casino / charity events. In small sample size has run deep/cashed more than expected.

By no means a 'good player' lol... but has that weird mix of passivity and aggression that can lead to a deep run here and there.

His kids bought him a ticket to the WSOP Super Senior event this June.

Question: any tourney book recommendations for this guy? Part of me says - meh - don't mess with his brain let him do his thing and see how it goes... but I also think more information is good for anyone, so why not read at least one book.

Looking for: obv not super duper high level tourney book, but something between beginner/intermediate?

Thanks for any suggestions

Considering the opponents you´ll face, I would recommend Harrington´s original 3 part series. It´s over 10 years old, but he does have a more recent book on Modern Tournament poker, which I haven´t read. GL.

Seems like a lot of players haven’t read his most recent book, his take on the modern game.
They still recommend the original books as good solid foundational books, which I truly believe they are....but how come so many have not read his book on modern tournament play?

What do you think of his latest book?

Why do you think that is? People doubt that he could talk about the modern game?

I think the main reason is that there are other learning tools available these days and that people have stopped buying books. I must have around 20 books solely about tournament poker and unless something groundbreaking comes along, I won´t buy another one. Also, as you suggest, if he´s not actively playing, people will doubt his credentials re. the modern game. That said, I wouldn´t mind looking at his modern book if I had more time.

I’ve looked into the training sites and the ones dedicated to tournament play are so damn expensive. Unless you are someone who is looking to become a pro player at some point, which I’m not, I just can’t see paying $600-$1200 or more on a training site.

If you’re just an average rec player, at best, but who wants to get better and be able
to at least compete in today’s game, but can’t afford hundred’s of $$$ in training, what are you suppose to do?

I think that by far the best value for a rec player like us, is Jonathan Little´s site. I´ve earned a load of points at his home game on PS, which I have then used to purchase webinars by him and other top pros.

What is the name of the site you’re talking about? I know he’s been part of a few recently.

He has his own site. I don´t know if I´m allowed to advertise it. Google is your friend.

As long as you're answering a legitimate question, you can name the site.

Best wishes,
