Hello, I'm a beginning poker player aspiring to become better. Although I am aware of the numerous threads here about tournaments, I want to ask for some guidance on what tournament books will be beneficial. I found The Poker Tournament Formula, Kill Phil, and Harrington on Hold'em at the library but I would like some direction from the better players.

For a total beginner....maybe “Harrington on Modern Tournament Poker” would be a good choice as well.

One hand at a time is like Harry in Potter (in action). The authors all won during that time and as far as I saw, later one quit online and one plays lower and the 3rd has been break even the last couple of year. Still, can help one to break even at high limits.

The Fossilman book, he is a live player who has some 400 big tourneys played at Stars during his lifetime and he beat some 48% of the field, that isn't enough but it is a small sample at that level. But he has no score to impress online.

There are better players who are major winners these days also and they have produced some good training material to add to whatever one gets from the books, that's mostly about preflop strategy, that's about the stack sizes, ICM, relating it to cash and knowing when one is committed, originating from Harrington perhaps.

Yeah I read about Greg Raymer and saw on the HendonMob he has some consistent live results. I might check his book out. I can also check out the One Hand at a Time series.
