Re: Harringtons cash books -pre order.

got my pre-order in .. march 14 seems so far away!

my plan is to read both of these books all the way through right when they arrive. these are probably the most anticipated poker books in history!

Re: Harringtons cash books -pre order.

Maybe I didn't check correctly but it appears they are selling them together. What if you just want to buy the first one first before buying book 2? Can we do that or do I have to go through Barnes & Noble or Amazon?

Re: Harringtons cash books -pre order.

I agree with pokerdude99 about people who won't pay to buy a book to learn but will throw money down the drain in the crap style of play. A $24 could not only save you $$ but make many times over the same amount of $$.

I have not heard anything different to date. Mason is very good about updating everyone if something changes as soon as he knows for sure. So the general rule of thumb would be it is the same as Mason last advised unless he states otherwise.

I understand that, I just hope they will make that decision, cause the tourmament books came out very nicely with the hardcover and all. That would probably take at least a year though, so I'm probably buying the english version from you guys anyway - also English is preferrable as the Norwegian language is kind of poor in terms of good expressions for things.

To help the pre-release fulfillment process go as quickly and smoothly as possible, I only set up the 2 pack. Once we get the pre-orders out the door I'll add the individual books to the site as purchase options.

It's a long story....

Basically, when 2+2 was starting out, they had cash flow problems like every other new business.

Mason wanted to increase the pricing on the books, but David said that the proposed $65 per book tag would kill the golden goose (DUCY?)

So, Chuck Weinstock, who hosted the original 2+2 website, came up with the brilliant idea of these covers. The guns drew in the "Wild Wild Poker West" romantics... and the suckouts sucked in the donkeys, who thought they'd finally found the Holy Grail that would justify their play.

Now, for the brilliant part- both groups, once they got smacked in the face by the dense writing and the flyaway bindings, would immediately throw away the books shortly after reading them.

Within a few months, after donating thousands more at the tables, it dawned on them that "hey, maybe that book had something I could use after all!"

So, they bought it again. Presto!- doubling sales while keeping book prices within reasonable ranges. (I think this eventually led to Chuck's getting a Nobel Prize in paperback economics.... at least, I think that's why he retired from the book retail end.)

BTW, that was also the origin of the company name. Chuck's idea was the key to the resulting fortune for certain people (allowing David the freedom to become the "eccentric" that he is today.... and let's not talk about Ray Zee). But, the "1+1" marketing plan didn't really sound elitest enough... so one day Mason was playing around with it, and realized that multiple purchases equaled a fortune....

... and there you have it- the secret insider's code: 2+2= 4

Re: Harringtons cash books -pre order.

I noticed these books are the #1 and 2 selling poker books on Amazon right now. Obviously, demand is very high for these particular books.

Maybe this information isn't available yet, or maybe 2+2 would rather not divulge it, but I was curious as to how many copies (approximately, if exact numbers aren't available) of these books have already sold?

Are these going to be the highest selling 2+2 books ever? Maybe the highest selling poker books ever?

Who cares? Honestly being totally frank (pun intended!) the only thing I care about is will these books make ME $$.

Re: Harringtons cash books -pre order.

I am also curious as to how these books will compare to PNL.

Will they contradict them, or will they make excellent companions to this book? I am reading PNL right now, and plan to read HOC1+2 next.

Both books are now at the printer for art work. So we should have them by the middle of March.

Best wishes,
Mason

Hi Larry:

Except for a couple of minor details, you got this about right.

Best wishes,
Mason

Re: Harringtons cash books -pre order.

There is an article in the latest Cardplayer magazine interveiwing Bobby Hoff.
He briefly mentions his interview with Dan.
Sorry wish they had the current issue on site but they dont. So no link. I have the magazine.

You're right- I forgot the part of how you two pumped up revenues during the early 1+1 marketing plan, by hanging around the tables waiting for someone to complain about your impossible books.

One or both of you then would pay someone $100 to buy their seat...... and rent and wages for the month would be covered.

They need to put that photoshop pic on a thread here that had Dan as Dirty Harry with the cap & all. That was cool.

these books are overpriced IMO

substitute goods are available

I'm deciding not to get them right now as a result

just one frequent 2p2 consumer perspective
