Greetings everyone,
Just wanted to hear about players thoughts on Harrington's book on modem tournament poker.

I know a lot of players believe books are outdated and pretty much useless, especially when it comes to poker in 2017.

But can the strategy in this book at least make you competitive at the tables at this time?

I play the casino tournaments, buy-ins range from $75 - $300. Competition ranges from poor to very good players. Anywhere from 50 - 100 players in a given tournament.

Hi Pocket Fours:

I just happen to be having lunch wit Dan Harrington and I showed him your post. Here's our response.

If you're new to tournament poker there's no better starting place than the original Harrington on Hold 'em series. It's clarity and ability to teach many important concepts for tournament play are unsurpassed.

The newer book, Harrington on Modern Tournament Poker, continues on and introduces the reader to many of the newer concepts that successful tournament players are currently using.

Best wishes,
Mason

So would you suggest reading and make sure to understand the original series before studying the latest book? Or is it ok to just jump directly into his latest work?

It probably depends on how well you think your understanding of tournaments is. However, given that you're asking this question here, at the very least I bet you'd find the older books worth your time and effort.

Best wishes,
Mason

Off to hit the original series, then his modern strategy book. Thanks for the advice/help!

The whole Harrington on Holdem (Cash, Tournament) series and The Raiser's Edge have been the most useful to me so far. I've read 5 other books, working through a couple of hundred.

To Mr. H's friend -- please pass along a thank you, I was able to put into words why I was playing the way I have been to my girlfriend after talking to her about why I limp in (she was chastising me) to see more flops. Proceeded to make it to 53rd out of around 1,000 players in a freeroll this morning after putting a few more pieces together from a Harrington on Holdem book. So, yeah, thanks!

Tysm....by chance have you also read his latest tournament book, Harrington on Modern Tournament Poker? And if so, what are your thoughts?

If you had 3 maybe 4 weeks to prepare for your very 1st HPT main event, would you read and study the HOH series, his Modern Tournament book, or all of them?

If I was being honest with myself, I’am a below average player. Very TAG. I read the original HOH books back in the day, and I’ve played tons of smaller MTT’s the last 12 years....actually won a few but also went out early in even more. Haven’t played in anything quite like this one, but it’s gonna be close to home for the 1st time ever and I’m gonna give it a try.

So with such little time til the event, you recommend re-reading the HOH series? His latest tourney book? Or all the above?
