Good non strategy books. Good non strategy books.

What are good books to read if you wanted to study non-strategy areas of poker? What would you read to study areas such as game theory, probability, psychology and sociology when it refers to poker?

I'm currently a micro-stakes online player but am trying to broaden my knowledge of the game and move up up the stakes and to play more live in the future (I dabble in live play every now and again).

A search could turn up some past discussion, so feel free to check that out if you don't get what you need out of this thread.

There are many different areas you could approach. All those you mentioned are good. A lot of books are available that are already tailored to poker. Such as The Psychology of Poker- Schoonmaker and The Mathematics of Poker- Chen, Ankenmen. Going this route will save you the time of learning the material and then figuring for yourself how to apply it to poker.

If you're looking to learn and figure for yourself how to apply it to poker; I can recommend a few solid reads.
1) The Black Swan- Taleb (assumptions)
2) The Art of War- Sun (thinking)
3) The Compleat Strategyst (into to game theory)

Side note: It's good you're feeling ready and willing to improve and raise your game. Just be careful not to stray to far from the basics at the micros. And I do recommend sticking to well reviewed books on the subject matter that are written for application to poker whenever possible.

Thanks for the warning! I realise that standard ABC TAG is the most profitable in the micros but I feel that now is the time to try and stretch myself that little bit further (but not to try and decipher the fishy play on too many levels!)

I've heard good reviews about Kill Tilt Now but I haven't read it. Nor do I know where to buy it.

I also heard good things about Inside the Poker Mind, a book that I was able to find here on Two Plus Two website. But I'm buying it on amazon today.

Very interesting choice. This is an excellent book. Based on reading your posts in SE I wouldn't expect this from you. You are a very interesting guy. I think many underestimate you on 2+2.
