Interested in people's views on the best poker math book. On Amazon, I see Bill Chen's "The Mathematics of Poker", but only 71 reviews - I'm aware this is heavy math intensive. Alton Hardin's "Essential Poker Math" has more reviews and higher ratings, but never heard of this author. Not looking for a book that covers the basic math (e.g., rule of 2 and 4), but a more detailed book for readers w/ understanding of poker theory and strategy.

Poker Math That Matters by Owen Gaines (Qtip) is a good book. It is a little on the basic side but I found it to be a good value.

agreed - Great book on fundamental math for poker.

I got Chen's book - however, just couldn't really get through it. It is fairly heavy reading and reads like a University level textbook. If you have the patience and math background, go ahead with Chen's book because I heard it is great. As far as I know, that is the heaviest and most in depth book on poker math there is out there. Pretty much all other books are all about calculating odds, outs, etc.. with respect to pod odds and expectations which is pretty much what you need to have a solid framework to play poker. I think having that background in itself will put you in the top 20% or better amongst rec players.
