Is there a popular article (or book) on the lifestyle grind training diary doubts of a pro poker player? Like the one thing that all players have read? I have only interest in playing casually at 2NL, but I would like to read about the crazy ups and downs and challenges of people trying to make a living at poker.

Why not use this forum and go to the section Poker Goals & challenges? There are many journals by several players with different experiences.

Hi Legion,
There are a few that I would recommend:
KingKrab Degenerate Journey
Once a Gambler Parts 1 and 2 by Miikka Anttonen
Biggest Game in Town by Al Alvarez

The last book is a classic and is pretty well read by long time poker players. KingKrab's book is very raw and real and I feel reflects very accurately what the daily grind of a typical professional player goes through. Mason actually gave this book a very good review.
I enjoyed Miikka's book too. I have not read Part 2 yet though.

I am also thinking of Matt Matros' book: the Making of a Poker Player but that book mixes his story with tips on how to be a poker player. Its been a while since I read but I do remember enjoying it at the time. That book was written in 2005 though.

Those seem like perfect recommendations.
I am not looking for poker tips, but the human side of the story.

Davidross is a super oldschool 2+2 poster who blogged weekly about going pro in 2003:

Unfortunately the links to the old threads are dead now, but if you can dig them out on archive.org they would be an interesting timecapsule, as for example I think HUDs and playing more than 4-tables were quite novel back then.

It's what inspired as a teenager to become a pro poker player.
