I'm reading this book now and i think it's though but great!
Question:
On page 71 there is a equation to solve for how wide BTN calling range must be when facing 3b.
like allready said in this thread, X should be BTN calling frequency, not folding frequency.
Shouldn't -5.5 be 'blinds EV when the button calls' instead of folds?
Maybe i'm just stupid and could somebody explain why both 4 and 5.5 is 'blinds EV when the btn folds'?

Yes I think you're correct. It says "average EV when called" on page 70 and should say the same on page 71. So this is a mistake.

You can PM me and I can email them to you, or at least the first article.

I've sent a lot of people the articles since they were taken down from 2+2 so a lot of people have them and anyone who does has my permission to send it/share it/etc.

I wanted to originally make a revised edition but honestly thought it'd just be easier writing a smaller and more streamlined book. I've been keeping notes for the past 4 years about stuff that I think I got wrong/could improve so I had a pretty good outline of what needed to be written for when I got some free time. I also have used PokerSnowie a lot in the last 2 years and PioSOLVER in the last few months which are super powerful tools I didn't have access to when this was written.

In my mind "No Limit Hold 'em For Advanced Players" is kind of just me updating/fixing/clarifying concepts from Applications, but it's really hard to assess your own work.

This is something Mason could answer since they handle everything regarding selling the book, but it will be shorter so I think it will likely be cheaper. I intentionally tried to not just repeat stuff that's in Applications when it could be avoided so no one feels like they're paying for the same information twice (though inevitably you have to repeat some stuff).

A good example would be rather than talking about a "bluffing to value betting ratio with a perfectly polarized range" for 15 pages like I did in Applications (because AFAIK that stuff hadn't been written about before), in the new book I'll just say "When betting with polarize ranges, you can bluff substantially more on earlier streets and when there is more stack depth. See Applications ______." A lot of readers already know this by now so we can then immediately go into actual examples and ranges (since real poker situations rarely model all that well to begin with).

Hi,

In the 1st book, you sometimes talk about PvBC spots.

My question : in practice (no toy game, but real poker hands), how could be determine a spot is PvBC?

After thinking about it, I thought about these requirements (for the turn spots) :
-Hero's range Equity > 80% vs V's range equity.
-static board, (NO draw), but this second condition is generally induced by the first one (when there's a draw, Villain's range has generally more than 20% equity on turn).

Are these 2 requirements OK to determine a PvBC spot?
Should we change these 2 conditions a bit (lower the equity requirement or 1 draw accepted for example)?
Do we need to take something else into accounts?
What would the requirements be for a flop spot to be PvBC?
What would the requirements be for a river spot to be PvBC?

Thanks for the response. Just to clarify you plan on having the new book be a companion to Applications instead of making the original book obsolete?

I don't think the book will be obsolete and in the new book I reference the old one pretty often. They're really different books though, since Applications uses a lot of math and models whereas this one emphasizes understanding concepts, seeing patterns, and using lots of hand examples. I'm also hoping the new book will have much fewer things in it that are "wrong" than the old book since 4 years time has passed to build on old ideas and we now have way better software.

Side note:

Its really hard to objectively analyze your own work and for this reason I typically don't recommend my own book/videos/etc. I'd rather just do the best job I can realistically do with the time I have and if it's good hopefully people will read or watch them and recommend them to others. But by the same token I don't want to appear as if I'm not proud of my work or don't think I did a good job, since if I didn't think I could do a good job I wouldn't have made the book or video to begin with. I'm also not the only one whose devoted a lot of time to this book (Mason specifically puts in a ton of work and I know others at TwoPlusTwo do as well).

I know I've told several people in this thread that I would NOT recommend Applications to them based on their skill level and goals. I think this book will appeal to a wider audience. If someone were to ask me "Hey Matt should I read the new book first or Applications?" I'd probably almost always recommend the new one, but until you get feedback from at least a few dozen people it's going to be hard to know if that's correct.
