I just been given a job and i will be at work for 10 hours a day 6 days a week. a extra hour for traveling to and from work and another 1.5 hour at the gym. so i will be away from home for 12.5 hours min. I want to focus on playing mtts. if i sleep 8 hours and it takes me 1 hour to shower and make food and eat then i only have 2.5 hours left. say 2 hours left since 30 mins might be used reading before bed.

so i have 2 hours left. Instead of trolling the forums what things can i do to improve my mtt game? I'm thinking about playing some husngs, spin and goes, 16 man sats 4max hypers, 18 man or 45 mans and zoom cash. maybe some normal cash too.

cash will help me in early stages playing deeper, husngs will help me play heads up in mtts, spin and goes will help me play three handed looking to finish nothing but first.

My goal in mtts is to finish first not to make dollars. I don't care about a pay jump i care about finishing first.

would this be a good plan?

then i my day off play large field mtts looking to come out on top.

The obvious solution would be not to take a job working such stupidly long hours

And your goal in poker is to make money. Finishing first helps doing that a lot obv but making bad decisions "to try to finish first" won't help you at all

It is unusual the person who can sustain the schedule you have outlined and not only avoid mental exhaustion and burnout, but actually grow a s a player. You have included no time for family or friends, no time for relaxation (and trust me, with your goals, poker will not be relaxing), and no time for the daily emergencies that come with life. After a 12.5 hour day, you will be physically tired, and not in the best mental place to play.

Lower your poker expectations, play for fun (you can still try and improve when playing for fun), but treat your job as the primary means of income, and don't even worry about poker. With a 60 hour work week, you really have to give yourself some downtime.

I disagree that this is unhelpful. As long as you, as a player, really understands what this implies, this stated goal can help guide a lot of early game and bubble decisions. But you have to understand that this philosophy is incredibly frustrating because it dictates that instead of cashing 1 in z times (z being defined by how good you are), you will instead cash bigger 1 in z x 10 times.

not if there is no money to be won for any place live. Online theres play chips to be won. i dont care about winning 1 million play money chips from playing a 50k mtt.

I am playing 8 game play money mtt right now and really enjoying it.

Hey, I used to work 60+ hours per week, and had 2.5hr of travel per day for 2.5 years while playing live poker about 15 up to 30 hours per week.

What occured was a constant of both mental & physical exaustion, inproper diet, skipping gym and my barely existing social life turned into a non-existing one.
To be fair, I had to support my long week with a 2k per month cocaine habbit after a while, which lasted for about 1.5years until I broke.

So yeah, here's my example to your plan, but everyone's diffirent you know, try it for a few months see how it feels. If you don't feel good in the first few months, I guarantee you won't feel better later on.

Try and balance it, you need a proper work, 40 hours per week, devote 20hours per week for poker to avoid exaustion, have a bit of a social life and try to balance the things, that's the best advice I can give you.

Personally I don't even see how this is mathematically possible to play MTTs, at least on your work days. SNGs yes, MTTs no. Your goal is to go deep, which is where the only real long term profit is. This is completely contrary to your sleep schedule. The deeper you get, the more sleep you will lose, and you will be least focused at the end when it really matters most. To put it simply, MTTs take too long to play to fit in realistically with your schedule.

I might do this work for 3-4 months save up enough money and move to where there's a casino.

This is now my goal.

I'm going to have a focus on live poker. Live cash seems best to focus on with the odd live mtt. Spending 10 hours a week playing online poker 2NL while i work at this job. 3-5 hours of study a week. Sound like a good plan?

Seriously NOT trolling you, or trying to be an ass , but your life sounds awfull. How this won't burn you out soon and certainly make you a loser at poker ( due to physical and mental stress) is beyond my understanding. Reorganize your work and life schedule , if you can , so you will give yourself some chance for working this out positively. Trying to keep up your posted schedule looks like a trainwreck to me.

I used to play while I had 2 jobs. 8hs employee with 1,5 hs traviling there and back, 6 days a week and also I had my own pizza factory at home.

I still played everyday 3 or 4 hours of sngs and mtts, also had a GF.

The results of all this was doing everything poorly and breaking down. In poker the problem was emotion management because it was the only thing I was doing for fun + I wanted to grow as a player to make money some day. But with that background it was imposible not to tilt and do a horrible BR management because feelings were strong
