i've known many a player who has taken this approach and "never looked back."

Great point. Been working on how to jump.

If I have a roll on stars of approx $50 Im basically rolled for 50c tourneys (i only really play MTTs/STTs)

I therefore only really play in the 10c 360s or 25c 90s and 45s at the mo.

Therefore Im kind of overrolled, can I compensate this by playing in some 1 dollar tourneys or would that be a bad idea?

And also when being strict on a 1% buy in for an mtt do you include site fees?

I recently decided to pick online poker back up, and do it the RIGHT way. I deposited 25 bucks (with some liquidty outside of my actual online bankroll) onto FTP and 4 tabled 2.25 6 max turbos. I had a great winrate, and after 130 or so games, I had turned the 25 into about 80 bucks. Look up "Idioglossia" on Officialpokerrankings to see my results... Well, after going back and re-reading this thread, its made me decide to go back to PS and grind the 4.40 180s. Heres my question. I am going to be transferring the current FTP money I have over to PS, and I will be adding on roughly 100 dollars on Monday to put me at around 180, which based on my caluclations is about 41 BIs for the 4.40s... Now should I be multitabling the 4.40s with this amount of BIs, or should I be single tabling, and drop down immediately after I go under 40 BIs? My plan has been to play about 4 tables at once of the 4.40s, but that will immediately put me under 40 BIs... $180 - 4 BIs (or $15.60) = 164.40, or about 37 BIs... How do I deal with this? Should I maybe grind out about 10 more BIs before I even try the 4.40s, or should I just go for it anyway?

man, I feel like such a ******.
After playing for like 2 years on-line, reading a ton on 2+2,
learning a few things at pokerschoolonline (which by now, I feel I have ougrown and could use some more tips as to good sites to use my $15/month),
I NOW know what bankroll management is after reading
this thread. To think of all those $50 deposits like the other dude ack!
Thanks for this thread.

The standard amount of buy-ins is 20. (100bb stacks) So for $0.02/$0.05 you would need $100 ($0.05x100 = $5 x 20 = $100)
So, if I wanted to play a $1/$2 table I should be rolled for at least 4k?

At 200 NL 4k would be a little tight. You really need to be chrushing the midstakes if you want to play with 20 BI. Personally I wouldn't do it with less than at least 7k.

The difference is that µNL is much more beatable and you winrate will likely be much larger thus you would need a smaller bankroll. Your bankrool really is a function of your willingness to risk ruin (or move down more likely) and you winrate.

How about playing STT tournaments for 100+?

Can you do as well with 6,9, or DON turbo SNG's, as you can with 180 MTT's?

It seems like this is a NL post.

The thread is big and I was wondering if the advice here applies to Limit? If it doesn't - can someone please direct me to the correct BR for LIMIT cash? Thanks.

Hi thanks for the reply - that's what I thought ... a couple of other questions ...

1-So the "buy in" concept for bank roll management does not apply to limit yes?

2-Also, can the 300 bb requirement go down for lower limits say live 3/6 and 4/8 and online <1?

3-BR in general: if I'm trying to build a BR to get to higher limits does it ever pay to lower the requirement/BB/BI so I can get to the higher limit quickly. I've heard Bart Hansen and Isaac Haxton talk about this publicly as a means to getting to the higher limits quicker - do yous all agree? any thoughts for both NL and LHE (because I play 1/2 NL as well as 4/8 LHE)?

Thanks all ...
JESS

Contrary to advice above, if you play shortstacked you don't need 20x max buy-ins.

That would mean you needed $2000 to shortstack the $100 tables at $20 per time, which would be ridiculous.

Best guess is that 1/3 of that would be enough (the risk of ruin short is much lower short than playing full stacked at any given level but the variance is still higher when playing with $20 on a $100 table than it would be on a $20 one)

I have a question on bankroll management.

How do you correlate between running good, vs BRM vs moving up stakes?

I put $60 and started grinding 2NL. Quickly moved to 5NL then 10NL and now I'm at 25NL.

I moved up to 25NL from 10NL when I got to $500. When I get to $1000 I can (20 BI's) move up to 50NL but I'm running pretty sick at the moment and in the space of about 20K hands at 25NL I'm up almost 12 BI's.

Is there a rule of thumb, where it's 20 BI's [i]or[/o] X number of hands before you should move up?

This is from a script grinder/trying to be a good player, and not a gambling point of view.

I have roughly 100K hands at 10NL where I went from $200 to $500.

It would be perfectly fine to move up once your bankroll allows it. If you indeed are a good enough player to play at the higher level you would be missing out on opportunity cost if you don't.

You should however also move down quickly again, regardless of your loss is due to bad luck.

Your wr is not very good red if winning 12bi in 20k hands is running "sick". But move up when you feel comfortable is the only thing you need to keep in mind, and don't be shy about moving down.

Hello,

I've built my bankroll from 30$ to 100$ in a few weeks playing 5nl and 1,75$ 18 man turbos at stars . Now I'm confused what to play, I also visited PSO and saw some nice "gifts" , should i start bonuswhoring my way @ PSO or should I just stay @ stars

I've recently begun a bonus @ PSO aswell however I'd stick at 5NL for now. Wait until you have about $250, if you're a winning player at 5NL over a big sample size, then I'd withdraw $150 of it and put it on the site you're using to hit this bonus, and play 5NL with $100 on stars, using the other $150 for your bonus.

I deposited $20 on RedKings and realised they only have 10NL+ (plan was to gring 2NL for 5 days, move to 5NL for 2 weeks and then kill the bonus @10NL), so I've taken 70% of my roll from stars so I can get my 12months of StoxPoker and put it on RedKings, but left enough to play 2NL (yes, 2NL -_-), will move to 5NL when I hit $50 and then back to 10NL when I hit $200, while grinding 10NL on the piece of crap that is, RedKings.

Then, when I've cleared my bonus @ RedKings (I also have a $100 bonus when I hit 900 pts), move that $100 in Neteller and use it only for bonus sites, while moving my main roll from RedKings back to Stars and eventually FTP when they sort out their RB for registered players.

If I was you I'd wait until you have a bigger roll before doing it, it'll be much better for your progression. I think having a main roll and another small roll for whoring is so much better than constantly moving your roll for bonus whoring, I'd also save the bonus whoring until you're a better player aswell. Learn ileyou can, get the StoxPoker Membership from PSO and then stop whoring for a while, stick to improving as a player and the money will come quicker and easier, I read a lot of posts about people who regret whoring as it seriously slows down their progression.

I would name three preconditions for moving up:
  • Having a decent sample on your current level;
  • Feeling comfortable with your game
  • Having the required bankroll for the next level.

Hope this helps.

Gotta bump this one.

I put 2 minimum buy ins on Stars, failed so far. But I have a job, so technically my bankroll is endless. I just so far cannot help degening out and gambling it all.
