That's against their Terms of Service, and they will delete that account if they find out about it and (I believe) transfer your money back to your main account. Just email them and see if you're linked to an affiliate or not.

Hey all,

I have a question if someone can possibly take the time to answer..I have looked..but, I think I'm missing something somewhere.

Can someone please explain to me the difference between how many big blinds you need to move up a level and how many buy ins? When people talk about buy ins, do they mean the minimum buy in, or max?

For example, if I was starting with 5 bucks and playing .01/.02c FR, what level of profit am I looking to achieve before I move up to .02/.05?

I know bankroll is key in this, but, I working on the assumption of someone starting with just 5 bucks.

Thanks for your time..and sorry if I'm being a complete idiot!

When talking about BR requirements, you should use the amount you plan on sitting at the table with. So, if you're buying in for 100bb at 1c/2c, the buy-in is $2. If you're buying in full (which you should) at one of the 250bb tables, it's $5. However, most people are refering to the standard 100bb buy-in that is the max in most cases.

BR requirements are meseaured in Big Bets for limit games. The standard is having 300 big bets for the next level before moving up.

Shick,

Thanks for your reply. So, if I wanted to ensure I had 200bb before moving up to .02/.05, I need to get to 10 bucks right?..or am I thinking completely incorrectly about this...

You play No limit correct?

For no limit:
The standard amount of buy-ins is 20. (100bb stacks) So for $0.02/$0.05 you would need $100 ($0.05x100 = $5 x 20 = $100)

Yeah, like Cruzer said, you need to think in buy-ins if you're playing no-limit, not big blinds.

Love the Aston....<3<3

Just to clarify then...sorry..if I wanted to jump from .02/.05 to .05/.10, I would need $200 right?

Also, when you you start considering dropping back down a level, in these simple terms we are sticking to?

$200 for 10nl, right. If you go on a large downswing step back down.

After reading this thread and the "build your roll" thread that is in this forum, I moved my $100 from Full Tilt to Pokerstars today. Here's hoping BR management is one of the steps that makes me a better poker player ;-)

I'll post progress in the other thread.

Good luck on the tables everyone!

Thanks for posting this.

I was about to register at Full Tilt but I read this just in time. A few minutes more and it would have been too late.

Thanks again.

not a big poster on here, but read 2p2 every day. i just took some of my br from ps and moved $600 to ftp.

i've signed up with raketherake.com and was planning to 4 table NL25; however, the rakeback calculator begins with NL50.

does anyone know how long it would take to clear the $600 bonus at NL25 averaging about 16-20 hours a week?

also, i may move over the remaining $800 from ps, so how about $11sngs? i would guess the bonus would take much longer if i was playing say 20 to 40 sngs per day.

great thread btw. thanks in advance to anyone with a helpful reply!

How big do you let the balance get at the on-line site before you pull it back to your bank?

i think this is a personal decision. it comes down to your goals.

are you looking to move up in stakes or supplement your income with profits from the level you're currently playing? or might you do both?

once i've established a healthy br of at least 50 bis at the current level (and i don't have plans to take a shot at higher stakes, or i simply need the money!), i will withdraw 50% of my monthly profits and leave 50% to grow my roll.

this method allows me to have some cash and add a cushion to my br requirements.

true, I have plans to move up at higher stakes when i reach 25-40 buyins for the next level.

that makes sense. I'm fairly new at this, but I'm probably going to keep 20 buy-ins and bring the rest back to my bank.

I'm thinking also about safety- i.e. these aren't banks we're dealing with . . .

i don't think you need that many bis to "take a shot" at the next level. now an honest self evaluation is important.

consider this: take 10 bis of profit and leave at least 25 bis for the current level. this will equal 5 bis for the next level. if you lose all 5 bis, drop back down.

i've known many a player who has taken this approach and "never looked back."

Hmm, I've read in this thread that if you have an existing account that you need to contact Full Tilt about rakeback.

Well, how about this? I created an account on full tilt a long time ago but I've never entered any personal info or deposited anything. All I have is a user name and old e-mail address tied to the account. In my opinion, this wouldn't matter since I never used the account except for a few play money games. Would they track IPs?

Not sure why you posted in this thread, but you should look on your affiliate's web page. The good ones will have an FAQ page that should have this question and instructions. If you can't find it, just email your affiliate and ask how to go about setting up rakeback.

Great thread OP. Wish I would have read something like this 3 years ago when I started donking off $50 multiple times on these sites playing $1/2NL. Fortunately I learned this stuff at the beginning of 08 and haven't had to make a deposit since. Take WG's advice people.

At how many buy in do you believe it's okay to take 'pot shots' into a higher level? Obviously, absolute minimum is 20 BIs but 30 is recommended. If you have 15 BIs for the next level, is that enough to run 1 table at the Higher Stakes, and 5 in your standard level?
