Hey guys,
Just wondering your thoughts n the Jackpot sit n gos on America's cardroom. I enjoy playing them and the games are pretty good competition wise, but would you ever consider playing these as your main game type to do a bankroll challenge or something like that?

I saw on a couple other websites the projected win amounts and %s needed to be a winning player at these, and it said you really only had to win 33-34% to be profitable after playing 100k of them. This does factor in bigger spins and such, but obviously their stats may be plus or minus ____ based on the variance of spins and wins.
Let me know your thoughts!
Thanks,
OilSpill

honestly not many player can profit at them. They usualy hit a big spin if they are profiting players. But there is a hand full that can beat them without a big spin.

I don't play a lot of different games or variants, so my opinion might be different than some you'll get.

I'm boring. I play regular speed SNGs. No turbos, no jackpots, no cash games, just 9- or 10-player SNGs and freezeout MTTs with no gimmicks. I like to keep it simple and make money. I know where I'm going and what to do to get there. So no, I would not consider playing jackpot SNGs to build a bankroll.

I'm not sure exactly what your goal is and that makes a difference. When you talk about a bankroll challenge, is this for fun, to challenge yourself? Then do whatever is fun for you. I'll write the rest of this with the assumption that you want to make some money.

I've seen players do the analysis on the jackpot SNGs that your're talking about and the math is somewhat complicated because more variables (the different colored cards) are introduced. You don't want complicated. Stick to the basics, know what you're doing and why, and make some money. When you're playing the micros, you don't want fun games to play. You want to get good enough to play $5 and $10 SNGs instead of $1 and $3, YOu want to start making some real money.

There is a lot of good information on how to play SNGs, including entire books on the subject. I got Moshman's book years ago and I still refer to it from time to time, in fact, I reread parts of it about a month ago.

I would stick to regular speed SNGs, without the bells, whistles and gimmicks, especially with all of the information out there to help you get good at them. You can even use Google or YouTube to find videos on SNG concepts. If you use the information out there and study how to get better at regular SNGs, you'll quickly be way ahead of most of the players in the micros.

But the best reason to stick with regular SNGs is because of the low variance. You don't want jackpot cards adding to the variance. YOu want to slowly but surely build up your bankroll.

If I was in your shoes I would just grind boring regular SNGs until you get your bankroll where you want it. Then, if you want to play hypertubos or jackpots or whatever else the cool kids are playing, go for it.

I appreciate your feedback. I am currently doing a bankroll challenge trying to build up $100 to $1000. That thread can be found on my profile or in Poker Goals and Challenges. I agree regular SNGs are less variance and probably better in the long run. I think it's fun to have a day to just mess around without it costing too much, but you are correct in what is more profitable. thanks again!
