Where to start with microstakes 6-max? Where to start with microstakes 6-max?

03-14-2018 , 09:18 AM
I haven't played poker for two or three years having previously played up to 20nl with limited success. I want to start again and will be starting at the bottom, 2nl.

I've forgotten almost everything, though and was wondering if anyone could recommend a beginners course for 6 max NLHE, whether it's a post on a forum or videos on Deuces Cracked or some other site.

Thank you.

There are other forms of the game that haven't been analysed to death - why do you want to play 6m NL like seemingly everyone else?

Because I have some limited experience with it already and don't want to start completely from scratch. I also don't like the variance of PLO, for example.

the most important thing to do is to think about hands that you played

As someone that started 6 max cash from scratch relatively recently I would say the things that helped me most were:

1- Use proper bankroll management - for a totally new player 100 buy ins at 2nl seems solid but as you have experience probably 50 buy ins should be fine ($100)

2- Build some standard open raising charts by position and be on the tighter side - see pretty much any free poker training site/blog for a rough starting basis; Blackrain79, Upswing Poker etc all have free charts you can download (might require registering).

3- Read The Mental Game of Poker - Jared Tendler and one basic cash strategy book (Harrington on Hold' Em, The Grinders Manual, Blackrain's book, or some video series online - BodoPoker on youtube was super helpful for me and I have been recommended the Goodnight Moon series on deucescracked but I haven't checked it out yet.)

4- Start out with just one table at a time and add more over time

5- Mark hands in which you lost big pots 30 big blinds+ and review them after the session, if you get stuck post them in the micros forum on here

6- Don't focus too much on results straight away and don't move up until you are totally ready/wait for a somewhat significant sample size before analysis, I set myself a goal of beating 2nl over 100K hands before moving up limits (this was a bit overkill as I already had decent poker experience from MTT's but it was a good lesson in self discipline)

(Obviously if you are playing online you need to use a HUD - I recommend HEM2 personally)
