Where do you make the majority of your money in poker? Where do you make the majority of your money in poker?

I understand that to be a winning poker player you need to be winning both small and large pots, but as a newbie I'm curious as to where most of your poker income comes from. Is it mostly from stealing the blinds, dead money, and small pots, or is it mostly from large pots with big bluffs and big value bets? Or is it completely 50/50?
Thanks in advance!

the money mainly comes from the fish

the situations that have more impact are those that are repeated more frequently as for example - defend blind, ip pfr vs blind, sb pfr vs bb - tend to be small boats, but very frequent situations. Also 3b pots are very frequent but big pots.

Also Rol pots are very frequent and as I say the money comes from the fishes, so very important know too squeeze good that situation I think

Poker is situation driven. Successful Players are quicker to recognize a spot and apply the 'appropriate' game play ... which includes folds! You may have the same holding, position and stack size but act differently based on 'Player' factors. Online you may have stats and live you have your tells and reads.

To expand/twist PPG's comment above ... Knowing how to size your bets for maximum value is where those 'extra' chips come from. Once again ... same holding, position and stack size, sizing the bet to generate more calls for this/these particular Player(s) based on the 'other' information. You may want to generate more folds than calls in a certain spot as well rather than continue into what may become a sticky (and expensive) street to follow.

For my own play I tend to be very active and take down a lot of pots PF/Flop. I use those chips as 'seed money' to play more hands and set up situations where I hope to take down the larger pots. There are some tables where it serves me better to avoid the larger pots that day when the Player types just don't pay off as well ... ie, they only have the nuts!!

So back around to your question .. The 'most' chips at a poker table come from knowing where the most chips are 'available' and then applying appropriate game play to maximize the amount of chips gained per spot. GL

PS .. You must also understand that 'most' is a relative term where one day 'most' might equal 4-5 BIs and the next it might be only 4-5BB per orbit.

Winning flips more than 50% of the time.

EDIT: That's kind of a facetious answer, but I could make a case for how running well when all in is more important than playing well.

A lot of the profit in my games comes from repeatedly winning the smaller pots (for example, with cbetting) and avoiding paying off with second best hands when you can. The 3 street vbet/vbet/vbet printing happens some, but less often than you'd think.

At 1/2 live: Big fat-value river bets versus opponents who can't fold top pair, over pairs or 2 pair.

It comes from having the best hand against a good but 2nd best hand and betting to maximize value.

That's why pre-flop hand selection is so critical.
