I'm a fairly profitable player. I'm not super serious in that I track sessions, can't tell you BB/hr, etc... but I can tell you I put $50 in my account about 6 weeks ago, and sit around $800 ATM. Lots of fluctuations of course, with peaks of ~$900 and valleys of ~$300. I could easily reload if I need to.

I play for fun and stuff I don't want to spend my normal income on. For example, I'm wanting a $2k smoker, so I'm saving between playing live and online.

Should I withdraw a few hundred at a time to hit my goal of 2k, or does it really matter? I guess it's more psychological than anything to play with a little less in my account. I play $50 PLO mostly online and NLHE live.

What are your opinions on withdrawal strategy?

If you're playing PLO50 on a sub 1k roll, then assuming you're actually profitable then I wouldn't be withdrawing as it is incredibly easy to go busto on such limited funds

Thanks. I only play one table for that reason. I just couldn't concentrate at lower stakes. Post smoker, I want to move up eventually, but I'm not itching to do so. What's your thoughts on Buyins? 50, 100? 100 seems excessive unless playing several tables.

I know I play underrolled, I do have money behind, but of course prefer to not use it.

How many tables you play has nothing to do with how many buy ins you need. It's the risk of going broke just because of variance itself.

Also if you don't have a long record of beating 50PLO and just deposited 6 weeks ago I'd bet on you not being a profitable player. Focus on learning the game well before playing stakes that can bust your bankroll in a few days and you don't know you can beat yet.

Thanks, Kelvis. I'll keep that in mind. I certainly won't discount it. I do feel like I've put myself in good spots and review my big hands (winning and losing) regularly. I also feel like I have a good idea of where I'm at most of the time. I've done some study and continue to do so, but I don't think one can study enough.

Ive been a middle of the road NLHE player for years. Quit after Black Friday online, then went to live casual games only in between. Only recently have I got back online, and I've focused on PLO since.

Pre Black Friday, I played MTT, would cash if I wanted to buy something, or after a deep run in a big table. Never managed a cash bankroll before, hence the question. I'm really more interested in this smoker...I really feel like I can get there, so the challenge is as fun for me as anything else .

Also, how could the number of table you play not effect the number of buyins necessary? If you're gambling more money, you need more of a roll, right? Or are you of the stance that's it's variance over a number of hands, multiple tables just levels you out quicker?

You said you don't keep track of winrate or anything so I'm not sure how much help this will be, but this is what I do. I play recreationally. I'm sure the more serious players do it differently.

I keep track of my hands played at each limit and withdraw half my winrate. For example if I've played 10,000 hands since my last cash out with a 6bb/100 winrate I would withdraw 300bb. I do this individually for every limit I play.

I like doing it this way because I get paid for every hand I play, reguardless of being on a downswing or not. I'm also "reinvesting" half my winrate in order to grow my bankroll to move up in limits.

One thing to note is when I'm figuring out what limit I'm rolled for I look at my bankroll minus the amount I know will eventually be cashed out. So if I have $1000 in my bankroll but I know I've played enough to cash out $300, my effective roll would be $700. I use excel to keep track of all that for me.

Thanks. That makes a ton of sense. I should track, I just haven't.

You're not gambling more money, although you might be risking more all at once than you normally would. If we assume you see 30 hands per hour playing 1 table, then there's no difference between playing 1 table for 4 hours or 4 tables for 1 hour because either way you're playing 120 hands.

I consider withdrawing when I have a certain amount of money online that I would be very mad at myself for losing. Then I withdraw that amount.

Might be difficult to play 6 tables if you only have 5 buy-ins though.

$50 PLO with a bankroll of $800? That's a disaster waiting to happen.

In answer to your question, don't withdraw. Keep building your roll and move up the stakes. Once you reach the maximum stake you feel you can beat, stay there and withdraw the profit every few months.

I have more behind, I just don't want to deposit it. I also am willing to drop down in stakes if I take it on the chin too much.

I've seen everything from 25-100 buyins. What's you're opinion on what's needed?

50 buy ins minimum. Omaha is really swingy. You can drop 20 or 30 buy ins in no time.
