I’m a relatively new player and I’m wondering how good you should be to start playing micro stakes online. If not, does anyone know a good way to practice and get up to par?

It's pennies so the answer "not very" is OK. Remember, you do not have a bankroll, you have a training budget.

I suggest playing only one table at a time. Maybe add another table as you get more comfortable with the speed of online play. I also recommend not playing more than four tables until you have played "for awhile".... maybe 50K or 100K hands? It will seem like forever....but walk before running is probably sound advice.

I'm one of the few people on this site who advocate not depositing one red cent on a real-money site until you're consistenly crushing and demolishing play-money poker:

Maybe you are already 'good'?

There are a few who also say 'never' use play chips as you will develop bad habits and false expectations of your opponents that don't carry over to 'real' money.

My general feeling is that if you are comfortable with game flow/speed and recognize the 'standard' spots in poker (draws/pot odds/stack depths) then you are ready to play for real chips.

The question comes down to 'should' you play for real chips? What do you want to get out of 'real' poker? Are you gong to take it seriously? Or will the idea of 'pennies' lead you to 'wth' type of decisions? If play chips and pennies are the same in your mindset, then why play for pennies? GL
