What do you do? What do you do?

What is supposed to happen if a player shows his cards before the betting is done? I was in a hand, in the cutoff. The river game and the button/dealer when there it is and flipped up his cards to show his hand. There was 2 other players in the hand counting myself. The dealer had gone all in on the turn, but the hi-jack and myself had chips left to bet with. The moment he did that the other play mucked his cards screaming because he lost. The issue is that I had a full house that I was going to bet with against the hi-jack. The dealers full house beat mine but I could have won a side pot off the hi-jack who was a calling station normally but had two pair on this hand. I could have made some chips back. Is there a rule for this, because this is not the first time this player has done this. Thanks for the help guys.

Depends on house rules. If it’s a home game there’s a decent chance that showing cards is fair game even multi-way.

What would you want to happen? The least that will happen if the floor gets called is a warning to the offender. The most that will happen is the offender gets banned if he’s a known problem. You’re never going to get any compensation, though.

In some rooms his hand might be dead, but I’d expect that to happen almost never and only in some pitifully small poorly run room.
