Yes, play with 'free' chips until you become comfortable with the flow of the game. There is a ton of free information out there that you can both read and observe, even at the local library. There is no reason to spend a bunch of money until you know that you want to get a little more serious about the game.

Not that you will not see 'optimal' play, buy try to watch uncut table video and not just the 'fun' hands. GL

However, when it comes down to actually playing cards for the first several times, I think a tight is right approach is best. Then once you get better at visualizing your ev at game speed, you can start calling down more bluffcatchers, bluffing more, value betting thinner, etc.

The reason to play tight at first is basically because you're probably going to lose. Thus playing tight minimizes that loss.
